SUMMARY

This is administrative and supervisory work developing and managing varied recreational athletic leagues, sports camps, programmed by staff, recognized sports providers and volunteers in compliance with Department, Village and industry standards.

Work is performed with considerable independence and reviewed by the Parks and Recreation Director through conferences, reports and results obtained.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

The following duties are normal for this position.

Coordination and program responsibilities include but are not limited to: Youth Co-ed Flag Football, Youth Basketball, Youth Soccer leagues and Specialized Sport Youth Camps.
Oversee the coordination of sport provider agreements and the implementation of the following adult athletic leagues: Adult Kickball, Adult Flag Football, Adult Soccer and Pickleball leagues.
Oversees and coordinates facility rentals of Village owned properties such as but not limited to indoor meeting spaces, outdoor pavilions, and athletic fields.
Monitors all quality components of the programs and compiles records and reports to meet accreditation, licensing, funding, or national organization requirements. Liaisons with accrediting agencies, sponsors, parents, participants, event committees, boards of directors, national organizations, and other Departments, as necessary.
Coordinates registration of participants in programs or events; maintains, analyzes, and evaluates attendance, program, participant, and performance records.
Plans, organizes, supervises, and evaluates programs and scope of services.
Responsible for developing and maintaining all program budgets that support the various activities.
Writes, prints and disseminates routine correspondence, newsletters, invitations and programs on activities and events.
Meets with the public, clubs, groups, agencies, schools, and organizations to provide information and expand programs using volunteers.
Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of Associate Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Recreation, Physical Education or related field is required. Employee must possess experience in Parks and Recreation. An equivalent combination of related training and experience is acceptable. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Position will be required to obtain NIMS training 100, 200, 700 and 800 certifications within six months of hire. Position will be required to obtain Florida CDL License w/Passenger Endorsement within six months of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Comprehensive knowledge of principles, objectives, facilities, and equipment needed in a public parks and recreation program.
  • Considerable knowledge of community dynamics, including civic organizations, programs and special interest groups.
  • Ability to plan, organizes, train and supervise parks and recreation staff in a variety of activities.
  • Knowledge of athletic programs, camps, and event programing
  • Ability to develop and stimulate community participation and interest in planned activities through an active public relations program.
  • Good knowledge of budget control and accounting procedures. The ability to prepare comprehensive and statistical reports, and maintain detailed records is necessary.
  • Requires the ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing and to courteously interface, communicate and deal well with the general public.
  • Must be computer literate, including Windows applications
  • Must be multi-task oriented and able to work independently.
  • Dependability is extremely important to this position.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/PREFERENCES

Professional Certification (CPRP) through the National Recreation and Park Association is preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit and talk or hear, use hands to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Objects may include tables, chairs, podiums, benches, and other equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The environmental conditions described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions, and is occasionally exposed to hot, wet and/or humid conditions or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is that which is expected in a busy office and/or outdoor environment, which is from quiet to moderately loud.

PROBATION:
All positions serve a one (1) year probationary period

  • Insurance coverage becomes effective the 1st of the month following 60th day of employment
  • Group Life Insurance policy of $50,000 paid for by the Village for employees
HOLIDAYS:
We have 13 paid holidays per year. Police Holiday is paid or comp'd at ten (10) hours for holiday except birthday which is at 8 hours. Birthday is an additional paid holiday but must be requested approved by supervisor, and taken in the same week as the birthday occurs.

PERSONAL LEAVE TIME:
Accrues weekly from hire date at the rate depending on length of time in service. PLT may be used, paid, after six (6) months.
