Obtained an associate's or higher degree; or b. Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or c. Successful completion of the ETS Praxis ParaPro Assessment, TennesseeTwo years experience working with childrenStrong verbal, presentation and interpersonal skillsSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptableJob ResponsibilitiesAssist students, teachers, and others as directedAssisting students with toileting, feeding, and any other special needsAdminister, score, and record such achievements and diagnostic tests as recommended by the teacherOperate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposesDistribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instructionAssist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field tripsCheck notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and makeup work as assignedWork with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skillsKnow and follow all safety rules and procedures associated with the responsibilities of the positionEstablish and maintain satisfactory, respectful working relationships within the school environmentAbility to lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds.Ability to move around well enough to perform the duties of the position safely.Successfully participates in required training.Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher and/or school principalThe teacher assistant for special education works 7 hours per day (35 hours per week;ten-month work year) with salary established by the Board of Education.
