Since 2004, the Foundation has brought to life some of the most important programs and research for those affected by Parkinson s. Our community includes people living with Parkinson s, Parkinson s care partners, families, and friends in addition to physicians and allied health professionals.

POSITION OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

The Director of Development is accountable for developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to achieve the organization's revenue goals and support its mission and programs. They provide leadership and strategic direction for all fundraising activities, including individual giving, major gifts, grants, corporate partnerships, grassroots fundraising, and special events.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee a team of fundraising professionals responsible for individual giving, grassroots fundraising, and other fundraising initiatives. Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure team members have the resources and expertise needed to execute fundraising strategies effectively.
  • Collaborate with the individual giving and grassroots fundraising teams to cultivate relationships with donors, engage supporters, and steward philanthropic contributions.
  • Provide strategic direction and support for donor solicitation, acknowledgment, and recognition activities.
  • Work closely with the grassroots fundraising team to develop and implement strategies for community fundraising events, peer-to-peer campaigns, and volunteer-led initiatives. Guide campaign planning, volunteer recruitment, and partnership development to maximize fundraising impact.
  • Partner with the individual giving team to design and execute strategies to identify, cultivate, and solicit support from individual donors. Provide direction on donor segmentation, solicitation tactics, and stewardship efforts to enhance donor engagement and retention.
  • Build and maintain relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and other funding partners. This involves stewarding existing donors, soliciting major gifts, and cultivating new donor prospects.
  • Monitor the performance of individual giving and grassroots fundraising initiatives, tracking key metrics such as donor acquisition, retention, and revenue generation. Analyze fundraising data to identify trends, assess effectiveness, and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including marketing, content, finance, and programmatic teams, to align fundraising efforts with organizational priorities and messaging. Ensure integration between fundraising activities and broader organizational strategies to maximize impact and efficiency.
  • Develop and manage the fundraising budget, allocating resources effectively to support fundraising priorities and initiatives. Monitor budget performance, identify cost-saving opportunities, and optimize resource allocation to maximize return on investment.
  • Collaborate with the executive team, board of directors, and program staff to integrate fundraising efforts with organizational priorities. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to convey the organization's impact and funding needs.
  • Represent the Davis Phinney Foundation at public speaking engagements and external events.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a leadership team, contributing to organizational decision-making, strategic planning, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Support the Foundation s Diversity & Inclusion initiative through thoughtful outreach, practices of cultural humility, and the inclusion of diverse leaders.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to develop and implement a strategic fundraising plan that aligns with the organization's mission, values, and growth objective.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, board members, and corporate and community partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate the organization's mission, impact, and funding needs to donors and supporters.
  • Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising, including individual giving, major gifts, grant writing, and special events. Familiarity with fundraising best practices and techniques.
  • Leadership experience in managing a fundraising team or department, including setting goals, providing direction, and evaluating performance.
  • Understanding of nonprofit financial management principles, budgeting processes, and revenue forecasting. Ability to analyze financial data and make informed decisions to drive fundraising success.
  • Results-driven mindset with a track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals and targets. Ability to adapt strategies based on performance metrics and feedback.
  • Passion for the organization's mission and a dedication to advancing its impact through effective fundraising efforts.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical fundraising standards and best practices, including donor privacy, transparency, and accountability.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and guidelines governing fundraising activities, as defined by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field such as nonprofit management, fundraising, business administration, marketing, or communications or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years' progressively responsible experience in nonprofit fundraising, including demonstrated success in individual giving, major gifts, sponsorships, grants, and special events.
  • 4+ years experience managing teams of fundraising professionals, providing leadership, supervision, and professional development opportunities.
  • Track record of achieving fundraising goals and driving revenue growth in a nonprofit organization of a similar size and complexity.
  • Experience planning and executing multi-channel fundraising campaigns, including capital campaigns, annual appeals, and online giving campaigns.
  • Experience working with a CRM database (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser's Edge) for donor management and fundraising tracking.
  • Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

  • Professional certification in fundraising (e.g., CFRE - Certified Fund Raising Executive).
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques to analyze fundraising performance, identify trends, and generate insights for strategic decision-making. Experience creating and presenting data-driven reports to stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of digital fundraising strategies and tactics, including email marketing, social media fundraising, crowdfunding platforms, and online giving platforms. Experience leveraging digital channels to engage donors and drive online donations.
  • Understanding of DEI principles and practices to foster an inclusive fundraising environment that values diversity, promotes equity, and respects cultural differences among donors and stakeholders.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, empowering team members to contribute their ideas, skills, and perspectives to achieve shared goals. Experience promoting a culture of learning, growth, and continuous improvement within the development team.
