Full-Time Nautical Science Faculty


Job Details

To teach nautical science courses within Northeast Maritime Institute s (NMI) College of Maritime Science Associate in Applied Science in Nautical Science Program (AASNS). Faculty member is expected to teach a maximum of 15 credit hours of courses each semester and shall be responsible for participating in practical training exercises, preparation and updating of curriculum, assisting with the development of courses within NMI s Learning Management System (NEMO), advising students, supporting the academic and personal growth of students, and supporting other faculty. The faculty member shall be responsible for the management, oversight, integration and command of the M/V Navigator to ensure College of Maritime Science students experience underway training as a major conduit for the safe, efficient and cost-effective operations of a vessel.


Responsibilities

  • Ensure the mission and goals of NMI are integrated into a course delivery on a continual basis
  • Responsible for delivering USCG and STCW compliant courses for ratings, licensing and endorsement programs and non-certificate training courses delivered within the College of Maritime Science programs
  • Work to enhance program curriculum and delivery systems that are relevant within today s maritime industry
  • Prepare, instruct and update courses that are USCG approved within Institute required format (instructor s manuals, syllabi, handouts, presentation materials, course presentations and simulation activities, teaching equipment etc.)
  • Ensure all courses are fully supplied, in consult with administrative staff
  • Integrate modern teaching methodologies
  • Counsel and advise students
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours
  • Perform and record all examinations and assessments in accordance with Institute and USCG/IMO standards
  • Submit timely attendance, grade and other course and student records in accordance with Institute requirements
  • Report student absenteeism to Student Support Services Director
  • Request text and support resources as needed for each course, in a timely manner
  • Maintain file of teaching and research activities and present during annual review
  • Provide tutoring to students and form a mitigation plan for students with grades below the 80 percentile mark
  • Recommend and design new course and curriculum
  • Responsible for assisting with course development, literature, presentation, preparation and the evolution of curriculum as it pertains to changes in industrial needs and/or regulatory changes.
  • To integrate hands on/applied learning opportunities in all maritime subject areas that require performance based learning objectives.
  • To assist the Chief Academic Officer, Director of Nautical Science and Learning Management System Personnel in the development and continual enhancement of NMI Online (NEMO).
  • Assist in the development and assignment of student internships for their summer at sea semester s
  • Design and implement learning resources for NMI.


Qualifications

Minimum 1600-ton USCG License

Minimum Bachelor's Degree

Teaching experience


Prior US Coast Guard and US Navy encouraged to apply!
