Job Summary:

As a Composites Layup Technician - Level 1 at R.A.C.E, you will be responsible for performing entry-level tasks related to the assembly and fabrication of adhesive-bonded assemblies of non-metallic composite materials. You will play a vital role in ensuring that the layup and assembly processes are carried out efficiently and contribute to the production of high-quality automotive seating solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Layup and Fabrication:

  • Comply with written work instructions, standard procedures, and processes to perform layup and assembly tasks.
  • Assist in planning, laying out, fabricating, and building adhesive-bonded assemblies of non-metallic composite materials.

Quality and Precision:
  • Lay out, pre-fit, assemble, and perform layup on various composite bonded assemblies with a focus on precision and quality.
  • Assist in fitting core components with attention to close tolerances.

Pattern Development:
  • Assist in laying out and marking dimensions and reference lines on materials to develop and trace patterns of product or parts or use templates.

Safety and Quality:
  • Be a supportive member of Environmental Safety & Health (ES&H) and Quality System policies to provide a safe workplace and deliver quality products and services on time.


Basic and Routine Tasks:
  • Perform elementary and routine tasks in preparation for and assist in the fabrication, curing, build-up, and assembly of various types of composite materials, following predetermined methods and sequences.

Non-Routine Procedures:
  • Under close supervision, assist in performing non-routine and non-repetitive procedures in the fabrication, curing, build-up, and assembly of various types of composite materials.

Technology Familiarity:
  • Gain basic familiarity with composite technology, including hi-temp plastics, pre-impregnated epoxy composite materials, graphite epoxy, wet graphite, and silicone injection molding.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • Lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis using proper lifting techniques.
  • Within OSHA guidelines; Bend, stoop, stand, and/or sit for extended periods.
  • Work with small hand tools, including routers, die grinders, band saws, and Dremel tools for layup and assembly tasks.
  • Use basic mathematics skills and precision measuring tools to support layup and assembly processes.
  • Complete paperwork and manufacturing routing sheets accurately.
  • Possess average written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Take responsibility for your own actions, adapt to changing priorities, and work in a dynamic environment.
  • Enter basic information in computer programs as required.
