The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator serves as co-chair and clinical leader of the Emergency Preparedness Sub-Committee. This job assists in planning, coordinating and maintaining the VCUHS Emergency Operations and Management Plan to include both internal and external event responses. This job will also assists to develop plans and agreements with both internal and external stakeholders with regard to the unique pathogen unit (UPU). This job develops and implements training for staff, patients, and visitors to include all areas of the organization including clinics and ambulatory care sites. This job oversees Emergency Preparedness planning for VCUHS clinics and ensures that all hazard vulnerability analysis are done to fulfill all Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organization (JCAHO) standards.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: NA

Experience REQUIRED: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a hospital setting or a setting where emergency management principles are employed (prehospital care, state or local emergency management, etc.)

Experience PREFERRED Ten (10) years emergency/disaster related experience Hospital Incident Command System

Education/training REQUIRED: Bachelor's Degree in a health care related field or if Bachelor's Degree is not in a health care related field must have a Master's Degree in a health care related field

Education/training PREFERRED: Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Management from an accredited program or presently enrolled in a program Master's Degree in a Health Related field

Independent action(s) required: Day to day functions is handled independently. Actions include collecting data, developing database spreadsheets and databases, reviewing data and evaluating trends, developing documentation systems, and developing education materials. Conducts tracers throughout the environment to gain information for further educational programs.

Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): Advice and guidance are sought on an as needed basis and where there is a major impact on activity outside the team. Activities include project development, handling user complaints, change in team operations or change in training materials content or form.
