We are very excited that you are considering joining the UPower team. As a Project Engineer (Solar and BESS), you will play a pivotal role in the project planning, design and development. You are responsible for the entire technology decision and engineering design of energy project in the development phase. You are the architect of the energy system both project origination and development teams rely on. Your expertise is the guidance for every stage of the project development (site control, permitting, interconnection, etc.). Your ultimate goal is to work with customers, vendors, internal team and external experts to develop the energy system design ready for construction.

This position is preferred to be in office in Austin, TX, but could be remote for qualified candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing in-depth technical knowledge of solar and battery storage technologies, equipment advancement, new construction methods, innovative energy solutions.
  • Project technical feasibility study: conduct comprehensive project feasibility analyses including production modeling, conceptual layout, constraint map, load analysis, BESS preliminary sizing, etc.
  • Site Assessment: Conduct thorough site assessments to evaluate the feasibility of solar projects, considering factors such as sunlight exposure, land suitability, environmental impact, grid connection, etc.
  • Project Planning: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop project plans, including technical specifications, budget estimates, and timelines.
  • Design and Engineering: Create detailed solar system designs, including solar panel layouts, electrical configurations, and energy storage solutions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, permits, and licenses required for solar installations.
  • Resource Optimization: Identify opportunities for resource optimization, such as maximizing energy generation and minimizing construction costs.
  • Supplier and Contractor Management: Oversee the selection and management of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors involved in project execution.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related field).
  • Proven experience in solar project development or renewable energy projects.
  • Knowledge of solar energy technologies, photovoltaic systems, and energy storage.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems and grid integration.
  • Proficiency in CAD and solar design software like PVsyst.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and permitting processes in the solar industry.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills.
