Position Title Assistant Food Service Coordinator Location Minden, ON K0M 2K0 CA (Primary)
The Kinark Outdoor Center (KOC) facilitates a range of outdoor education, therapeutic recreation and experiential adventure programs designed to meet the specific needs of its diverse client population including children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families. KOC programs include Autism Family Camps and 5-day Autism Summer camp programs typically offered throughout the year. Programs focus on strengthening family bonds through new and or shared experiences, providing a sense of belonging, and getting a break from routine. Large group rentals of up to 120 campers can be accommodated. Reporting to the Food Service Coordinator, the Assistant Food Service Coordinator acts as a leader in the kitchen when the Food Service Coordinator manager is absent. The Assistant Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for cooking, preparing and serving meals to KOC visitors while ensuring Food Safety standards and kitchen policies are followed. The Assistant Food Service Coordinator helps lead cooks, problem solves menu issues, plans for dietary restrictions and supports in the maintenance of the kitchen and * Cooking/serving food for visitors to site. Includes preparing special needs diets for allergies and food restrictions. Ensuring special diet requests and needs are met at each meal is a must.
* Has a strong understanding of nutrition and cooking recipes including special diets.
* Ensures the kitchen is running smoothly. Establishes a positive relationship with Kitchen Team. Works with the Food Services Coordinator in meeting regularly with kitchen staff team to anticipate and deal proactively with problems.
* Works with the Food Services Coordinator to oversee the implementation of food practices relevant to the dietary restrictions and allergies within the camp population.
* Plays a leading role in preparation of meals and cleaning practices. Ensure adherence to cleaning and preventative maintenance schedules.
* Fosters a positive and nurturing environment between kitchen and program staff.
* Interacting and communicating with visitors an emphasis on relationship building and positive communication with visitors is key.
* Acting shift leader when Food Service Coordinator is not present which includes decision making, problem solving and the supervision of cooks. Providing mentorship and learning opportunities for cooks.
* Food ordering when Support Services Manager is unable to complete.
* Implements safety procedures in the kitchen. Monitors safety in the kitchen and recommends changes.
* Preventative and ongoing kitchen maintenance and cleaning
