About ABS:

Montgomery County Government has several vacancies for highly qualifiedLiquor Store Managersto work within its award-winning department of Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS). Generating more than $35 million in net income annually, ABS is the alcohol wholesaler of beer, wine and spirits for Montgomery County and operates 26 retail stores throughout the County. In addition, ABS manages alcohol licensing, enforcement and education for more than 1,000 businesses. The department has more than 450 employees.

About the position:

The Department of Alcohol Beverage Services(ABS) is recruiting for Liquor Store Manager positions to manage several Montgomery County Retail Stores. ABS is seeking highly qualified individuals with retail store operations experience who are customer service focused and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.

What you will be doing:

  • Responsibility for management of all aspects of operations within the four walls of assigned store, including but not limited to: profitability, merchandising, and customer service
  • Providing personnel evaluation recommendations and employee performance management and discipline
  • Scheduling work assignments
  • Providing general supervision of employees
  • Training new personnel and instructing employees regarding ABS' policies and procedures
  • Ensuring prompt and courteous service to customers and good relations with the general public
  • Overseeing the ordering, receipt, and storage of merchandise
  • Maintaining control and sales records, including daily sales summaries, and inventories
  • Maintaining the store in a clean and orderly condition
  • Supervising enforcement of all measures designed to ensure security of the store
As a manager/supervisor of unionized employees, this position has a responsibility for fostering a positive labor relations environment based on mutual trust, respect, and cooperation.

Selected candidates may be assigned to any store within the County system and must be available to work all shifts based on the anticipated scheduling needs of the department.

Selected candidates are required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical exam, drug screening, and criminal background check. Upon appointment, employees must successfully complete and pass the Alcohol Intervention Training course required by the State of Maryland within three (3) months of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Three (3) years of experience in liquor store retail operations, including one (1) year of experience as a Liquor Store Assistant Manager.

Education: Completion of high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience maybe substituted.

Age: Must be at least 21 years of age.

Physical Ability: Ability to independently move by lifting and/or pushing single and case items weighing up to 100 pounds.

Preferred Criteria

No Preferred Criteria All applicants will be reviewed by OHR for minimum qualifications.Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated "Qualified," placed on the Eligible List, and may be considered for interview.
