Description

Performs skilled and semi-skilled work related to the City's sanitation program through pressure washing assigned areas. This is accomplished through proper monitoring of assigned staff, efficient scheduling, ensuring conformance of City standards, acquisition supplies, and repair and maintenance of equipment in order to accomplish assigned tasks and provide required services. This work requires physical endurance and strength and is conducted in all types of weather. Contact with fellow employees and the public requires courtesy and tact. Work is performed under the general direction and supervision of the Solid Waste Manager, but independent judgment in the completion of assigned tasks.

Examples of Duties

  • Responsible for monitoring the conduct and job performance of assigned temporary staff including enforcing City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Oversees the City's sanitation program through the pressure washing function of the downtown area, rights of ways, parks & other public spaces, which includes sidewalks, building overhangs and other areas requested by City Departments.
  • Inspects work upon completion to ensure conformance to prescribed City standards.
  • Able to communicate professionally both written, verbal and non-verbal, utilized up and down chain of command, across Division and Department lines, and with City residents, businesses, and tourists.
  • Follows chain of command to apprise Manager of all changes, concerns and problems.
  • Ensures proper use and care of Divisions vehicles and equipment, including equipment audits, preventative maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
  • Accurately completes all paperwork including work orders, time and materials records, and reports.
  • Coordinates schedules to optimize level of service and minimize disruptions of downtown operations.
  • Assists with coordination and execution of other tasks or special events, as they relate to Solid Waste and Sanitation programs.
  • May assist other division staff with assignments during absences and periods of heavy workloads.
  • Subject to work overtime, scheduled weekends if necessary as well as respond to job-related emergencies during non-scheduled hours.
  • Performs related work as required.

Typical Qualifications

High School diploma required with two years' experience pressure washing, equipment operation, solid waste operations, or facilities maintenance/custodial duties. Experience in small engine repairs strongly preferred. Position requires the ability to get along with others and deal with public; exercise good judgment, self-control and work independently; good powers of observation and attention to detail; and ability to work in varying and extreme weather conditions. Familiar and capable of utilizing basic computer programs such as word processing, spreadsheets and databases. Driver's License Requirement: Valid Florida Driver's License Classification B.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information with others. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing and crouching throughout the day. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 60 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 90 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

We offer a complete benefits package to full-time employees including paid health care, dental, vision, retirement, deferred compensation plans, life insurance, long-term disability, and up to 13 paid holidays. The City offers 2 weeks of vacation and 2 weeks of sick leave, which accrues bi-weekly from your first day of work. In addition, the City provides 24 hours of time off for wellness and family, plus $300 per quarter in wellness or childcare reimbursements for non-probationary, full-time employees.

Furthermore, the City pays out accrued leave at 100% for non-probationary employees who leave in good standing and provide a minimum of 2 weeks notice. While there are limits on the vacation leave paid, it is at a minimum of 480 hours and there is no limit on the sick leave paid out. The City also offers an option for employees to cash out up to 2 weeks of sick leave, twice per year (per policy).
