Our client is committed to high standards and innovation, and their hardware is no exception. They rigorously test our hardware devices, which requires a combination of software, and various test hardware running on racks. As a Hardware Systems Engineer at one of their data centers, you will provide higher level support for our physical hardware infrastructure and maintain their data centers and their racks, driving chronic issues towards timely resolution. You will be responsible for configuring, overseeing, maintaining, and upgrading servers and networks within the data center. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of network hardware and software.
Qualifications
You Will:
Architect, deploy, and maintain core infrastructure components including Linux/Windows/MacOS systems, DNS, DHCP, network switches, and power systems on hardware lab server racks.
Ensure the storage infrastructure supports all operational needs without becoming a bottleneck
Develop and contribute to automation solutions for infrastructure configurations, host imaging, firmware/security updates, license installations, and more
Develop system and network health monitoring
Debug ambiguous failures in infrastructure and bring them to resolution with fellow engineers
Work alongside Network Engineers to configure and manage network connections for on-premise servers in different locales
Establishing and following processes to manage downtimes around planned and unplanned infrastructure outages.
Support their Bay Area and Toronto office data centers in-person and remotely
Create and update documentation for disaster recovery and other vital operating procedures
You have:
5-8 years of industry experience as a Systems Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role A strong desire to automate tasks and lead efforts for scheduled downtime and maintenance
Familiarity with Linux, Windows, MacOS
A functional understanding of network routing, DHCP configurations, and other foundational networking concepts
Experience with Configuration management and Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Salt.
Proficiency with shell scripting or equivalent (bash, powershell, etc)
Experience with bare metal provisioning and imaging systems such as MaaS, Foreman, Kickstart, or FAI.
Familiarity/Experience with working with Dell servers
Familiarity with Out-Of-Band (OOB) management tools (iLO, iDRAC, IPMI, etc)
Familiarity with Version Control Systems (VCS) like git and services like GitHub.
Independent, self starter with a problem-solving aptitude and excellent communication skills.

Programming skills in Python, Ruby, or a language of your choice
Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins or BuildKite
Experience with Netbox or other DCIM tools
Experience with AWS services like Fleet Manager, S3, and EC2
