Job Title: Instrument Technician
Classification: Professional

Reports to: Associate Professor and Chair
JOB SUMMARY
To ensure the instruments in the Chemistry and Physics department are operating to manufacturers specifications and are ready for student and research use.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Calibration, maintenance, and interfacing with the manufacturer.
- Diagnose and repair instruments and ordering parts from the manufacturer.
- Instruments of most interest would include: LC, GC, GC/MS, LC/QQQ, LC/QTOF, and ICPMS.
EDUCATION
- A Master's degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biology or related discipline.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience maintaining scientific instruments and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be able to work with little or no supervision.
- Must be able to make decisions supporting the department's mission and goals.
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects and prioritize based on departmental functionality.
- Must have excellent communication skills, oral and written.
- Must have interpersonal skills, and the ability to work within a culturally diverse organization.
- Must have a high level of professional appearance and demeanor.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment and requires a flexible schedule including possible evening and weekend work. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, and bend and reach.
