POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician I assists the Director of Facilities Services and the Maintenance Forman in the meticulous maintenance of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA) The Parker and other Performing Arts Center Authority (PACA) managed facilities by providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers to ensure the BCPA's environment and physical appearance supports its image as a premiere performing arts center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with the Maintenance Foreman and other departments to ensure prompt and accurate response in implementing projects requested by staff.
  • Assist the Maintenance Foreman with implementing new work projects and work methods.
  • Work with Maintenance Foreman on maintaining PACA's commercial kitchen appliances.
  • Communicate with the Facilities Services Coordinator on the status and/or clearance of assigned maintenance tasks and communicate with vendors, departmental staff, and management to ensure accurate completion of projects as assigned.
  • Maintain records of jobs performed indicating operating characteristics and any problems.
  • Issue keys and locks to approved personnel by maintaining and securing an updated key and lock inventory.
  • Operate the HVAC energy management computer system.
  • Support the maintenance of the facility in accordance with ADA requirements.
  • Maintain an inventory of daily expendables items i.e., light bulbs, A/C filters etc..
  • Remain current in maintenance strategies and all applicable guidelines and regulations.
  • Attend facilities specific training to learn and apply new knowledge and skills in their roles.
  • Perform manual work as required in the areas of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, mechanical, HVAC, and other related maintenance work utilizing appropriate hand and power tools, equipment, and other materials as needed.
  • Recommend building repairs and improvements when recognized.
  • Repair, replace, and install hardware for the PACA facilities as needed.
  • Understand the importance of maintaining the finest possible facility environment and its impact on promoting a positive image of the BCPA, The Parker and PACA managed facilities.
  • Maintain the facility's optimal appearance and environment.
  • Communicate with the Director of Facilities Services and the Facilities Services Coordinator, staff, and vendors in order to ensure optimal facility maintenance.
  • Comply with, and fully implement, all processes and policies of the Facilities Services Department.
  • Complete additional responsibilities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to maintain a physical presence at designated work location, maintain regular attendance and punctuality and work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays is required.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both in writing and verbally.
  • Knowledge of construction and maintenance of building and utilities.
  • Skilled in the use and care of hand and power tools, equipment and materials used in all aspects of facility maintenance.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, the Clear Air Act, and of work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with all aspects of facility maintenance.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures and techniques.
  • Able to perform heavy labor for extended periods of time as required by work assignment.
  • Able to maintain accurate and orderly records.
  • Able to operate a computer system.
  • Able to work effectively and positively with others.

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School or High School Equivalent: General/Trade/Technical/or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
