KLR Executive Search is proud to partner with Daniel Island Yacht Club and Daniel Island Marina & Boat Club to recruit a newly created Controller role. This position is located on-site in Charleston, SC. The Daniel Island Yacht Club was founded in 2020. Located on 35,000 square feet of waterfront on the Wando River. The DIYC provides its members with a year-round mooring field and launch service.
The Daniel Island Marina and Boat Club, located five miles from the Yacht Club, offers sailing programs for children and adults, public mooring rental, public day docking, pick-up and drop-off services, and public Boat Club membership. The marina also offers dry stack storage, outboard engine service, cleaning, and detailing.
The club has grown to 25 employees and 90 members in four years, with plans for additional growth. The Marina & Boat Club has 50 part-time employees and offers 425 dry stacks, 385 feet of face dock, a ship store, and a member s lounge.
This is a unique opportunity for a finance professional with private yacht or golf club experience. The successful candidate will be a key management team member, working closely with all department heads to ensure the smooth operation of the Clubs. The Controller will interact regularly with the members of the Clubs and report to the Chief Financial Officer.
Key responsibilities include:
- Identify and implement process improvement and efficiencies.
- Drive preparation of accurate and timely monthly and year-end annual financial statements.
- Ensure professionalism when interacting with Club members and stakeholders.
- Ensure reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts and proper recording of any cash transactions.
- Oversee the proper recording of all credit card transactions.
- Oversee payroll and review PTO for accuracy.
The successful candidate will bring:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related area.
- Minimum of five years prior experience in a private club or hospitality-related industry in accounting or finance.
- Expertise with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, and Clubessential software is required.
