The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of I)Youth Camp Coordinator in the DIST Workforce Development Division.
JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the Director of Operations for Corporate & Continuing Education, the Youth Camp Coordinator will plan and lead camp activities with assistance from Youth Camp Counselors.

This is a non-permanent, hourly position.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend training July 8 - 11. *
  • Plan and lead activities during camp: *
    • Outdoors/Wilderness Camp at Spokane Falls Community College: July 15-19, 8 am to 4 pm
    • STEM Camp at Spokane Community College: August 12-16, 8 am to 4 pm
  • Find and schedule activities related to the daily theme. *
  • Lead and demonstrate activities throughout camp. *
  • Direct Youth Camp Counselor in supervising and assisting youth participating in camp activities. *
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
  • Comply with district policies, procedures, and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes, and collective bargaining agreements. *
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned. *

This position is eligible for bargaining unit representation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent at the time of employment.
  • Previous experience planning and leading youth activities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, and be flexible enough to make accommodations for unforeseen events.
  • Have excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to provide good customer service to campers and parents/guardians.
  • Positive and engaging with youth.
  • The ability to enforce safety rules.
  • First aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain through CCS by the start of camp).

CONDITIONS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. An offer of employment will not carry with it any responsibility or obligation on the part of the District to sponsor an H1-B visa. In addition, the Community Colleges of Spokane maintains a drug-free work environment and prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and state-owned vehicles. Must be able to successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.

Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is equally performed in an indoor office environment and outdoor uncontrolled elements.
  • Work is active.
  • Work requires long periods of standing and walking.
  • Move up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
  • Occasional to frequent change in position from sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Work directly with students/clients.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Non-permanent, hourly position.
  • Work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
  • This position is overtime eligible.
  • Criminal background check is required.
  • First aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain through CCS by the start of camp).
