SALARY: $30.00 - $36.00 per hour

BENEFITS: All eligible full time employees will receive Paid Annual Leave (PAL) starting at 23 days per year and raising by one day per year following one full calendar year of employment (January through December). They will also be offered health benefits and will be automatically enrolled in employer paid short and long term disability and life insurance.

All full time and part time employees have access to participate in the Delphinus Engineering 401(k) which includes company match of 25% up to 10% deferred.

GENERAL SUMMARY: Delphinus Engineering is searching for skilled Fiber Optic Technicians to join our Marine Services Division. Candidates must possess a high school diploma, GED or industrial school certificate, a willingness to travel, 5+ years of practical shipboard experience with Combat or HM&E systems and equipment, and previous certification or ability to quickly certify in fiber optic connectorization and inspection of shipboard cable assemblies per Navy Standard Item 009-73 and MIL-STD-2042.Must be able to read and interpret shipboard electrical installation drawings, wiring tables, schematics, and work packages. Experienced with the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting support of fiber optic voice, video, and/or data communications networks including the installation, termination, labeling, testing, troubleshooting and certification of single or multi-strand multi-mode or single-mode fiber optic cable. Physically able to climb vertical and inclined stairs and ladders, crawl, bend, stoop, work at heights, and work in confined spaces.

Receives technical advice and/or guidance from supervisor and/or appropriate subject matter experts/professionals. May train and be assisted by lower-level technicians.

LOCATION: San Diego, CA.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 7 years or more of experience in shipboard electrical/fiber optic installations; or completion of a formal related course of study through either a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprenticeship program.
  • Current, previous certification, or ability to quickly certify in fiber optic connectorization and inspection of shipboard cable assemblies per Navy Standard Item 009-73 and MIL-STD-2042.
  • Use optical test equipment in conjunction with customer wiring list drawings and NAVY Standard Items for performing in-process and final test of installed and terminated cable assemblies
  • Document and maintain detailed test and inspection records for all cable assemblies tested and inspected
  • Ensure proper setup and calibration of all termination and test equipment
  • Proficient in the use of basic electrician hand tools, such as screwdrivers, wire strippers, crimp tools, wrenches, knives, pliers, drills, and saws.
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, written technical instructions, cable diagrams, and manuals.
  • Able to design, draw and explain simple circuit sketches and wiring diagrams
  • Able to read and understand material safety data sheets (SDS).
  • Perform troubleshooting and/or testing of various electrical, systems, circuits, controls, instruments and equipment.
  • NAVSEA approved Cableway Installation and Inspection course preferred.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance
  • Must be able to walk, stand for long periods of time, sit, bend, stretch, reach, squat and twist
  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
  • Must be willing to travel within and outside of the continental United States
