Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the supervision of the Head Nurse and the Cardiologist and in accordance with standardized procedures, assist the Cardiologist in operating Stress equipment and operate the Holter equipment to assess or evaluate Heart Activities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Confirms patient identification.
2. Checks for physician orders and/or special instructions via the Electronic Medical Records.
3. Assist the Cardiologist in performing treadmill and pharmacologic stress tests.
4. Provide instruction to the patient/significant other.
5. Attaches electrodes to specific areas of the patient's body as required.
6. Provide special instructions to the family/significant other.
7. Documents procedures upon completion in the electronic medical records.
8. Print EKG tracing for review/interpretation by Cardiologist.
9. After the Cardiologists' review, and interpretation print the final report for distribution - Call the patient and remind them about the test day before the test.
10. Assist with Holter testing whenever needed.
11. Pacemaker check when needed.
12. Follows medical equipment protocol (i.e., tag/remove broken/clean equipment).
13. Maintains and orders supplies as needed.
14. Keeps patient immediate environment orderly and clean.
15. Follows established procedure in securing patient's clothing and personal property.
16. Conforms to policies governing patient rights and confidentiality of information according to HIPAA guidelines.
17. Demonstrates sensitivity to diversity in the workplace.
18. Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education, in-service, and self-directed education process
19. Conforms to policy governing uniform codes, attendance, and punctuality.
20. Carries out established Infection Control protocols.
21. Participates in Performance Improvement activities on an ongoing basis.
22. Participates in the Clinical Guidelines process.
23. Ensures a safe and secure environment free of hazards to reduce the risk of injury to all customers (patients, visitors, and staff).
24. Conforms to current National Patient Safety Goals.
25. Ensures compliance with the yearly mandate.
26. Participates in team-building activities.
27. Effectively utilizes the electronic as well as the paper medical records.
28. Maintains clinical competency.
29. Other duties as assigned by the Head/Charge Nurse for effective coverage of the unit (i.e., answer telephones, contact patient via telephones, assist patients' to seats).

Minimum Qualifications
1. Associate Degree, which included course work in Bio-Medical Technician field, and three years experience in the appropriate bio-medical technician field in an approved hospital or health facility; or,
2. Senior high school graduation or possession of a High School Equivalency Diploma, and four years experience in the appropriate bio-medical technical field in an approved hospital or health facility; or,
3. A satisfactory equipment combination of education and experience.
4. Employees performing blood analysis require certificates of qualification issued by the New York City Department of Health in the subspecialty of 29 (Ph blood gases) or specialty 28 (general clinical chemistry).
