The Safety/Industrial Hygiene Specialist works under the direction of the Health & Safety Manager administering multiple elements of the Lucky Friday Health & Safety program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Leads by example, demonstrating the necessary behaviors, attitudes and mindset to strengthen the Lucky Friday Unit s safety values and culture, and acts in a manner to motivate alignment throughout the mine.
Assist with or conduct health and industrial hygiene surveys/sampling and implement or recommend control measures to minimize/eliminate exposures.
Participates in the development, administration, implementation, and maintenance of Lucky Friday safety policies and procedures. Works with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies to stay apprised of regulatory laws. Ensures that all Lucky Friday operational activities are in accordance with the safety, health and environmental standards and regulations set forth by the Company as well as Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies.
Ensures that accident and near-miss incident investigations are conducted on a timely basis, and that effective assessment and analysis, identification of root cause and corrective action, and desired follow-up are achieved. Provides support and expertise in identifying site risks and hazards and provides recommendations on appropriate actions to mitigate risks. Participates in investigations of major incidents, making recommendations for corrective action and following up to ensure that proactive steps are implemented. Works with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with incident reporting procedures.
Facilitate and participate in the risk assessment processes in place at Lucky Friday.
Participates in internal audits and inspections of Lucky Friday operations, ensuring strict compliance with company and regulatory H&S requirements, provides input and participates in programs to mitigate gaps in compliance, and follows up to make sure that non-compliance issues are corrected in timely fashion.
Participates in safety related programs, meetings, and training. Participates in monthly Safety Committee Meeting.
Performs and documents jobsite inspections and audits with a focus on hazard recognition and unsafe behaviors. Works with operations to find solutions to mitigate hazards and change unsafe behaviors.
Participates in regulatory agency inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
Assists with the administration of workers' compensation program with Human Resources, including working with the insurance carrier and physicians to reduce employee lost time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS include:
Bachelor's degree in occupational health, safety, or a related scientific or technical field, such as engineering, biology, industrial hygiene or chemistry.
3 to 5 years of safety related experience preferred.
Working knowledge of 30 CFR, Parts 47, 48, 50, 56, 57, 62, and 100.
Experience and/or training in the mining industry preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft office, including Outlook, Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
