The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is accepting resumes for a full-time position in Aviation. The UMES Aviation Science degree program prepares students with the technical and professional skills and disciplines necessary for the operation and management of aviation enterprises including piloting, business management and administration. The position is a working manager position and may require duties at both the UMES home campus in Princess Anne, Maryland and the satellite location at the Prince Georges Community College in Largo, Maryland.

The Aviation Maintenance Manager will manage the Aviation Science fleet maintenance schedules of aircraft in an FAA Part 141 instruction flight line, ensure and manage completion of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance for a fleet of aircraft used in the Aviation Science Program, work with the Aviation Program Coordinator to maintain inventory, order approved parts, and provide general assistance with all aspects of an aviation maintenance shop.

Responsibilities

The Aviation Maintenance Manager is expected to do maintenance labor and perform managerial duties which include conducting regular and routine maintenance on UMES training aircraft; coordination of aircraft maintenance with maintenance personnel and maintenance vendors in consideration of student training in coordination with the Chief Flight Instructor; and regular interface with various campus personnel and maintenance partners for the accomplishment of tasks in support of aviation program goals.

Additional duties

  • Perform maintenance, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting on all aircraft in accordance to applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Regulations.
  • Perform inspections, component removal and replacement for all aircraft systems including avionics.
  • Ensure that all UMES aircraft are properly cleaned, maintained and repaired.
  • Coordinate aircraft maintenance schedules with the Chief Flight Instructor and additional maintenance facilities if required.
  • Order and manage supplies and repair parts needed for proper maintenance of UMES aircraft.
  • Maintain accurate records, including logbook entries, as required by the FAA.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of cleaning supplies, tools and equipment and aircraft parts.
  • Work with and continue building working relationships with external maintenance providers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Classification 17-0000 Architecture and Engineering Occupations Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Applicants with six (6) years of Aviation Maintenance Technician Professional Experience will be given consideration.
  • FAA Aviation Mechanic with Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) ratings certification.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to supply own basic hand tools as required for maintaining general aviation aircraft.

Preferred Qualifications

  • FAA Inspection Authorization (IA).
  • Cessna Factory School certification.
  • Two or more years Cessna single engine maintenance experience.
  • Garmin G1000, NAV Ill and GFC700 experience.
  • Previous leadership role with proven track record

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of aircraft maintenance procedures and practices and FAA policies and procedures.
  • Ability to ensure aircraft fleet is maintained in accordance to FAR part 91 and FAR part 43.
  • Ability to work multiple shifts as required by flight schedule, to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues and students.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Windows 10, Excel and Word.
  • Ability to pass drug screen and background checks.
  • Must be able to supply own basic hand tools as required for maintaining general aviation aircraft.

Certifications/Registrations

  • FAA Airframe and Power Plant (A&P) certificate.
  • Valid driver's license.
