Job Details

The Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, configuration, integration and implementation of manufacturing process control systems. This includes supporting process changes and projects to accommodate new models or products and to improve the operational efficiency of manufacturing equipment. Skilled, hands-on problem solving combined with software programing of various types of controls components. The Controls Engineer also works directly with the production engineering and maintenance teams to provide enhanced troubleshooting and controls software support for manufacturing equipment downtime issues.


Responsibilities:

  • Support manufacturing process control systems and automation.
  • Understand and troubleshoot various PLC, HMI, VFD and servo programs and modify as required.
  • Diagnose issues with plant Ethernet, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT and DeviceNet communication networks.
  • Provide effective controls support to resolve manufacturing equipment failures, faults and runtime issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime and lost production.
  • Identify root causes of equipment issues and develop solutions to eliminate reoccurrence.
  • Install and support the interface of manufacturing equipment to the plant network for recipe control and data collection.
  • Interpret and prepare electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Support various external devices connected to systems such as label printers and scanners.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase the operational efficiency of manufacturing equipment.
  • Document program changes and improvements for lessons learned and group communication.
  • Interface well with other teams to solve production problems.
  • Assist production engineering and maintenance teams in troubleshooting and with repairs.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations.
  • Analyze problems in a high volume production atmosphere.
  • Adapt well to changing responsibilities and work environment.

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering. Electrical Engineering, Controls or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in implementation of Controls Systems

Minimum 2 years of experience with troubleshooting controls, sensors and field wiring

Experience with HMI s (human machine interfaces)

  • Working knowledge of networking protocols including Modbus, BACNet, LonTalk and SNMP
  • Strong interpersonal communication and relational skills
  • Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills
  • 3+ years of experience preferably within high volume manufacturing environment


Competencies:

  • Fair knowledge of manufacturing controls systems and automation
  • Can work with various types of controls and automation components
  • Fair PLC, HMI, VFD, servo programming skills
  • Debug and troubleshoot with some assistance
  • Able to manage tasks with minimal direction
  • Fair knowledge of electrical practices and safety codes
  • Effective communication skills verbal and written
  • Desire to learn and results-oriented
  • Ability to work with a diverse range of people and in a team setting
  • High level of attention to detail, accuracy and analytical skills

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
