Company Overview:

Openshelf is a seed-stage healthcare robotics startup. We re focused on improving the efficiency and accuracy of inventory in the retail optometry and pharmacy spaces.


We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our startup team as our first assembly technician. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of our production processes by efficiently assembling components & robots, while helping is maintain our 3D printers and equipment.


As our technician, you will play a key role in building prototypes, testing new product concepts, organizing and maintaining the engineering areas, and soldering/reworking PCBAs. You will work closely with mechanical, electrical and firmware engineers to fabricate components, fixtures, and assemblies.


The ideal candidate is capable of both electrical and mechanical work and has excellent organizational skills to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment. You must have a willingness to work hands on with soldering, cable assemblies, machine tools, and testing equipment.


Note that this an onsite role. Candidates must be able to commute to Newark, NJ at 5 days per week. We are located near a PATH and NJ Transit station. We will be moving into NYC (midtown) August 2024.


Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in a hands on technician type role. Hardware experience required.
  • Familiarity with tools & components, including but not limited to power tools, chop saws, soldering irons, calipers, etc.
  • Mechanical experience with prototype assembly, product testing, and 3D printing.
  • Assembly of components and products according to provided instructions and specifications.
  • Ensure that all assembled products meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Conduct quality checks on assembled products to identify any defects or deviations from standards.
  • Experience maintaining workshops and engineering labs (including inventory management and 3D printer maintenance).
  • Experience in assembly work, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in small startups
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Electrical experience with building PCBAs and wire harnesses.
