Position Description: Maintenance personnel repair the District properties including the school buildings and the equipment and facilities which support that work to prevent problems or interruptions to the educational process and community functions.

Qualifications

  • Maintains a valid driver's license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; or experience in school or building maintenance.
  • Strong plumbing skills is preferred.
  • Equipment maintenance certifications is preferred.
  • Extensive experience with plumbing and HVAC repair, basic techniques of electrical repair, maintenance, carpentry, preventative maintenance and swimming pool maintenance.
  • Demonstrates ability to organize, perform minor repairs and use a computer.
  • Regular, dependable attendance is a critical performance factor to ensure consistent, high quality customer service.
  • Knows the job well enough to perform without regular assistance.
  • Consistently works at a reasonable pace for the full shift with the exception of allotted breaks, and completes tasks on time.
  • Able to read, understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Takes initiative to correct problems and/or requests additional resources from the building Principal or Director of Operations. Consistently works without direct supervision.
  • Able to apply new methods, products, equipment, and routines.
  • Wears the uniforms and maintains proper personal hygiene.
  • Willing to work with co-workers, staff and visitors and responds to requests for assistance in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Constantly strives to promote the safety, health and comfort of the students, staff and visitors.
  • Acts responsibly to ensure the safety of co-workers and ones self.
  • Demonstrates mechanical aptitude and previous exposure to commercial equipment.
  • Able to pass a physical performance assessment.
  • Able to climb and perform work while on a ladder.
  • Able to lift 90 pounds.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors correctly.
  • Able envision facility improvements and plan appropriately to implement them.
  • Able to understand machinery and utilize the proper tools for repairs.
  • Able to identify, troubleshoot and make repairs in a timely manner.
  • Willing to learn, listen, give and take, and share the physical loads. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other people.

Essential Functions

  • Wears appropriate personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Repairs plumbing, drain cleaning, heating, heating controls, cooling, cooling controls, ventilation, electrical, carpentry, locksets, interior finishes, furnishings, exterior assets, and metal items.
  • Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Maintains the rotation of approved overtime with the maintenance personnel.
  • Submits time sheets to the Director of Operations for approval.
  • Schedules work projects and maintenance with other maintenance personnel.
  • Constructs or installs new facilities as required.
  • Repairs items for indoor air quality, security, fire safety, grounds, instruction, and sports. Makes keys and keys door locks, padlocks and cabinet locks.
  • Performs annual and monthly boiler inspections.
  • Performs preventative maintenance.
  • Accommodates contracted maintenance and services.
  • Replenishes supplies and maintains cleanliness in the maintenance shop.
  • Performs grounds work such as plowing, salting, mowing, and maintenance of underground sprinkler systems.
  • Repairs grounds equipment and maintenance vehicles.
  • Unloads delivery trucks and assists in moving equipment.
  • Unlocks and maintains security of the maintenance building each day and turns on/off lights according to the Energy Management Guidelines.- Reports areas that need special maintenance attention to the Director of Operations.
  • Maintains proper container labeling.
  • Atends required training sessions.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings;
  • Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values; and
  • Conducts other duties related to the Maintenance role as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Superintendent and/or Director of Operations.

Additional Working Conditions

  • Occasional potential for exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
  • Occasional operation of equipment under inclement weather conditions.
  • Occasional interaction among unruly children.

Compensation Package: Hourly Salary Schedule is $20.01 - $22.27 and is combined with a comprehensive fringe benefit package will be offered to the successful applicant.
