Our client is a global leader in surgery with products and solutions found in almost every operating room around the world.

Systems Integration Engineer Failure Analysis

Robotics and Digital Solutions is part of a Robotics and Digital Solutions team, they are changing the trajectory of health for humanity, using robotics to enhance healthcare providers' abilities and improve patients' diagnoses, treatments, and recovery times.

The Systems Integration Engineer for Operations will resolve technical failures as soon as they arise. Support the team lead in implementing the framework and processes to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain the incredibly complex Robotic System within the R&D organization. This is a role that lies at the intersection of hardware, software, robotics, and clinical engineering. This individual will have the opportunity to train and observe clinicians, key opinion leaders, and high-profile visitors interacting with the team. They will provide individual contributions and organizational management of the team's responsibilities. This team will operate the system during clinical labs, troubleshoot and resolve known issues, document novel issues that arise during system use, perform SW installation and smoke testing and provide complex engineering test support for R&D applications. Applicants should have experience working with complex electromechanical systems and have a technical background in robotics. This is a phenomenal opportunity for someone with an interest in medical robotics to gain deep technical and industry knowledge while providing a critical service to the program.


Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead implementing the framework and processes to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain the machines/equipment/fixtures needed to perform repair and test processes.
  • Troubleshooting and root cause of robotics systems.
  • Working with motors, taking them apart, extensive troubleshooting to resolve the problem. (e.g., Motion Control, Harmonic Drives. brushless motors, absolute/incremental encoders)
  • Handle the upgrades of network infrastructure and system configuration and resolve technical failures as soon as they arise.
  • Document test plans, results, conclusions, and traceability with product requirements and design specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues that commonly arise across the R&D system fleet.
  • Maintain the configuration and records of all systems/subsystems used for development and verification.


Required:

  • BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Software Engineering or other applicable technical degree with 3-4 years of related experience or MS Engineering or other applicable technical degree with 2 or more years of related experience.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and delegate to other engineers and technicians.
  • Fundamental understanding across mechanical, electrical, processes, software, controls, robotics, and engineering. Depth in one or more of the above subject areas, with the ability to quickly come up to speed in new technical areas.
  • Experience partitioning and decomposing sophisticated engineering problems into solvable problems.
  • Understanding of engineering concepts such as system architecture, implementation, testing, and maintenance.
  • Proven understanding of programming concepts and ability to read and modify existing code in Python, C, and C++.
  • Able to run Python code in Ubuntu OS.

  • Excellent self-starter with a can-do demeanor.
  • Excellent in dealing with ambiguity and chaotic environments.

  • Hands-on experience with electromechanical and or robotic capital equipment systems.
  • Troubleshooting and root cause of robotics systems (e.g., Motion Control, Harmonic Drives. brushless motors, absolute/incremental encoders)
  • Experience with motors, power train, motion control, PCBAs, etc.
  • Experience working with more than prototypes, but also traceable products or a product actively used in humans
  • Embedded and real-time digital signal root cause (e.g., EtherCAT, SPI, I2C, BiSS-C, MCUs, FPGA's)
  • Integration of complex electromechanical system (e.g., power, data, computing, robotics, and controls)
  • Able to root cause PCB, PCA and Component Level electrical issues.
  • Able to root cause mechanical components (e.g., GD&T, wear, thermal).
  • Up to 50% travel in the US possible.
