Job Title: Recreation Assistant I

Reports To: Recreation Program Coordinator

Status: Part Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Wage Scale: $9.76 - $10.50 (Typical starting wage $9.76- $10.13)

Hours: Hours may vary

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, attends organized athletic events such as softball, football, soccer, etc. and officiates games, serves as the "official" interpreter of rules and regulations, monitors play, umpires, referees, acts as a line judge, etc., records the individual and team scores, provides the final/official results to Recreation Program Coordinator, and/or Recreation Manager, and other duties as assigned by the Recreation Program Coordinator, and/or Recreation Manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of multiple sports rules and regulations
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, use hands to finger, handle or fee, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear and see. Duties require sufficient mobility to work in an athletic setting; standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. The employee is also occasionally required to sit.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be 14 years of age or older
  • Ability to read and write,
  • Ability to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of sport(s) to be officiated, and
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
