Ghirardelli Associates is currently looking to hire an experienced Project Manager. This position will be based out of our San Diego Division. This is an opportunity to work with an experienced team of professionals!


POSITION SUMMARY:

An Engineer IV - Project Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of projects with an emphasis on civil engineering, rail, roads, and bridges. In this position, the Project Manager is responsible for project success through all phases of the project life cycle; from planning and pre-construction to project closeout, including such activities as contract negotiations, cost estimates, constructability reviews, schedule and budget development, staffing, and project kick-off/partnering sessions, safety and health program, quality assurance, communications and ongoing project planning and execution. Project managers are critical to winning work and required to participate in business development and marketing activities that result in project wins for the division. These activities will be aligned with the company goals and the year plan in terms of service offering, client type and project. This role requires the capacity to effectively resolve issues; manage resources, meetings, schedules, and budgets; oversee time sheets, accounting, and billing; as well as coordinate and communicate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, team members and other stakeholders. Additionally, a project manager provides any necessary training, mentoring, or coaching to team members to ensure their success.


Success in this role requires meeting the stated project objectives of budget, schedule, profitability, client satisfaction, and employee development. As company ambassadors, project managers are expected to execute in alignment with the company s goals, established standard operating procedures, the company vision, and core values.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Management

  • Manage a portfolio of civil engineering and construction projects within the respective project scope, budget, and schedule. Technical and /regulatory issues may involve civil engineering, permitting including, but not limit to, drilling, and soil excavation/grading/disposal CEQA & NEPA compliance, NPDS compliance, Cal OSHA regulations, and right of way permits.
  • Track the progress of projects by defining and monitoring metrics for schedule monitoring, budget tracking and forecasting, and resource management over the life of each project.
  • Ensuring GAI is within compliance with all its client contract conditions, including meeting the agreed goals for Small and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (SBE/DBE) participation.
  • Delivery of profitable projects against certain metrics and billability targets. These metrics and targets will be discussed and agreed on a project-by-project, division by division, basis.
  • Provide an appropriate level of oversight for quality assurance of the project teams work with specific attention to proper documentation procedures, quality and timeliness of deliverables, and progress towards meeting the clients expectations.
  • Monitor the progress of work for changes to the scope of work. Prepare or review requests for changes to the scope of work and ensure changes are fully reviewed, and approved changes are incorporated into the budget and schedule forecasts.
  • Develop job estimates and supporting documentation including working papers, project descriptions and project economics summaries in support of project claims.
  • Provide risk management and value engineering services for projects by reviewing project documents including preliminary studies, feasibility reports, engineering reports, environmental documents, and funding estimates to identify potential risks to project s objectives.
  • Support partners and client project managers by implementing project reporting and forecasting tools in the form of project reports, staffing reports, staffing and budget forecasts, and project funding estimates in accordance with client s project management procedures.
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines, such as estimating, construction, environmental, operations, maintenance, land and right of way, and public relations.
  • Ensure that the projects are closed out per client s protocols and provide close-out paperwork to Business Development.

Client Relations / Business Development / Marketing

  • Collaborate with marketing and business development team to target and win work with capture plan.
  • Lead project teams beginning with the pre-proposal, proposal and interview stages.
  • Work with business development staff in preparation of project proposals.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with the client teams, GAI associates, subcontractors, engineers, architects, consultants and key industry leaders.

Training/Recruitment

  • Provide leadership, clear direction, expectations, and ongoing feedback to project teams.
  • Provide any necessary training, coaching, and mentoring to project team members, including but not limited to standard operating procedures and protocols, documentation, core values, software tools, client relations, and the pursuit of work.
  • Developing and managing career development for all Division Staff while supporting agreed training.
  • Seek and recruit quality team members to expand the company s expertise, experience, and capacity against the division plans/project/client s needs.

Finance: Risk Management/Cash Flow:

  • Ensure invoices are submitted correctly and accurately without need for revisions.

o Invoices should not exceed 15 days in WIP.

o Invoices should not exceed 90 days from the end of the period when work was performed within Accounts Receivable.

Strategy: Implementation of Vision, Goals + Core Value

  • Assist in the development of strategic plans for the company. Implement and manage operational plans focused on the goals of the company.
  • Foster the company s core values throughout the company operations unit.


SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS or BA degree in civil engineering, project management, or construction management or related field.
  • MS degree in civil engineering, project management, construction management, or related field preferred.
  • 10 to 15 years of relevant professional experience in project management and civil engineering related to construction.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification a plus.
  • Registered CA Professional Engineer s License is required.
  • Demonstrated strong team leadership skills on successfully delivered, large-scale and/or complex projects.
  • Demonstrated understanding of planning and scheduling techniques including earned value management.
  • Strong familiarity with construction contracts, specifications, relevant codes and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience with project proposal and report preparation, presentation skills, mentoring and teaching team members.
  • Successfully managing complex projects with unrealistic schedules and impractical budgets.
  • Excellent client interaction and presentation skills required.
  • Strong experience and ability to problem solve and manage conflict.
  • Strong skills to plan, organize, multi-task, prioritize, and execute.
  • Microsoft Office experience, including strong proficiency in Excel.
  • Excellent influencing, mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit for up to 6 to 8 hours per day while working at a computer, during meeting or while driving. Walking up to 2 hours per day while performing field visits. Ability to see well enough to function in a typical office environment and read standard text on paper and electronic screen of a computer or handheld device. The associate frequently is required to use hands to feet. Repetitive reaching, repetitive hand use. Physical agility to perform tasks requiring a full range of body movements including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, stretching, twisting, reaching, balancing, squatting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, or assuming crouched positions; repetitive arm, hand, finger, wrist, leg or foot motion all while wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Long work hours may be required to meet competing priorities and deadlines. On occasion, the associate must be able to perform project site visits and investigations which may require walking on uneven terrain, bending, ducking, looking up, climbing ladders or stairs. Must be able to work in all weather conditions and can work any day of the week both night and day. Available for after hour emergency response.
