**Description**

**JOB SUMMARY:** The Second Assistant Store Team Leader is responsible to assist the Store Team Leader and Assistant Store Team Leader in overseeing daily store operations and provide overall leadership and direction to achieve profitable operation of the retail store as assigned. The Second Assistant helps ensure that the goals of full, fresh, clean, signed and friendly are achieved and that a positive environment that engages and empowers all associates is maintained at store level. The Second Assistant is responsible to help develop and train the store department team leaders, and associates to continually grow their capacity for efficiency, effectiveness and service. The Second Assistant coordinates and directs the overall operations of the store in the absence of the Store Team Leader and Assistant Store Team Leader. The Second Assistant is responsible to engage in learning activities necessary to prepare for potential assignment as an Assistant Store Team Leader.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Leadership:

* Working with the Store Team Leader and Assistant to maintain a positive work environment and ensure fair and consistent treatment of all associates. Set a positive example of the company values and excellent customer service

* Helping to recruit, select, orientate, train, coach, counsel and develop the best associates possible to achieve store and company strategic and tactical goals. Work with other management personnel to set clear performance expectations for associates, assign developmental opportunities, and follow-up with timely performance evaluations

* Observing and enforcing all company rules and policies as well as all local, state and federal regulations

* Maintaining a neat, well-groomed personal appearance always to set an example for others to follow; enforce company dress and grooming standards

* Managing execution of extraordinary customer service in all departments as well as promote customer and community good will by treating all employees and customers with fairness, dignity and respect

Operations:

* Assisting in maintaining high operational standards to include clean store conditions both inside and outside, optimum freshness of merchandise, merchandising to achieve maximum sales and profits and proper rotation of all stock. Ensure all displays are built for maximum sales and profits, are visually appealing, include tie?in merchandise when applicable, and are properly signed

* Actively supporting the Store Team Leader and Assistant in the fulfillment of their responsibilities in planning, organizing, directing and controlling store activities and operations

* Clearly communicating and enforcing standards for quality, customer service, safety, loss prevention, sanitation, store conditions, 5S and food safety to all departments and the store. Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations at store level, and ensure proper reporting is complete and accurate

* Taking overall responsibility for operation of the store during absence of the Store Team Leader and Assistant, including store performance, control of cash, inventory and security, customer services, and management of Staff

* Communicating sales goals, department performance and sales opportunities with staff to ensure positive results

* Focusing on customer satisfaction and needs; ensure that associates provide customers with superior customer service through use of best practices; communicate the importance of superior customer service

* Greeting customers and be alert and observant at all times; ensure that all staff members provide customers with prompt and courteous service and assistance; handle customer complaints

* Working with Service Support to accurately forecast, schedule, and monitor labor to be consistent with store sales and productivity guidelines and wage budgets; create action plans to address cost control issues

* Sharing responsibility for cash accountability and accuracy of store bookkeeping

* Sharing responsibility for ensuring that all associates comply with company cash handling procedures and check handling policies, procedures and limits

* Ensuring that accurate records are maintained in tracking markups and markdowns, in-store use of merchandise, voids, refunds and bad merchandise/spoilage write-offs per company policies

* Maintaining effective security standards and procedures for all areas within the store

* Ensuring that all invoice documents are recorded accurately on the applicable receiving log in each department and that all signed invoices are stored in the respective designated secured areas

* Ensuring that product rotation procedures are rigidly observed and that merchandise and merchandising is of optimum freshness and quality to achieve maximum sales and profits

* Ensuring that store personnel keep refrigerated coolers and shelves fully stocked and blocked or faced per tag allocation and department standards

* Ensuring that all merchandise is properly priced and price changes are implemented in a timely manner in accordance with the store's Master Pricing Guide and regular shelf price audits

* Ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company policies and procedures, including check cashing, security, safety, sanitation, wage and hour, etc.

* Implementing the highest standards in the 5S workplace organization program that ensures a clean, safe store that is efficient and appealing to the store's associates and customers

* Ensuring that applicable staff members perform hourly sweeps of designated floor areas in accordance with store policy and that all personnel understand procedures and respond promptly to emergencies and potential safety hazards such as spills and broken containers that contain liquid products

Safety:

* Assisting in maintaining an effective fire and safety program in accordance with the company operations manual

* Participating in the store's safety committee and ensure that all personnel are safety?conscious and adhere to the safe method of performing their duties

* Ensuring that receiving area policies and procedures are complied with to provide effective protection of company assets always

* Performing any other work-related duties as assigned

* Must conduct one safety observation walk daily

* Ensure that he/she are the example of participation of Axonify

**NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS:**

**Education/Experience**

* High School diploma or equivalent required, some college background preferred or planned

* Must have at least 6 months experience in a Store Leadership role or equivalent with a demonstrated record of success and can demonstrate strong operational execution skills

**Certificates/Licenses/Registrations**

* Department Team Leader Training

* Assistant Store Team Leader Training

* 2 Hour Sexual Harassment Training

* WAFC Certificate desired, but not required.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:

* Math skills necessary to supervise and handle sales transactions, tender change, verify vendor invoice charges and counts, calculate gross margins, percentages and ad losses, create operating budgets, make financial forecasts and projections, calculate productivity yardsticks such as earned hours and sales per manhour, evaluate inventory reports to implement corrective measures if required, and analyze receiving logs

* Ability to read and understand income statements and have the necessary accounting skills and experience to be able to balance cash receipts or vault cash counts, readily detect errors and omissions, and troubleshoot errors or discrepancies in cash or column balances
