Job Details

The Safety and Health Advisor is responsible to drive a contemporary safety, health, and risk management culture throughout the organization by assisting in the implementation of objectives, process improvement initiatives, risk management and reporting systems at all SunFoods locations. This role pro-actively partners with supervisors, managers, and employees across a diverse range of departments and offices to enable solutions and builds organizational capability in line with local legal requirements, best practice, and SunRice Group HSE Management System requirements.


The Safety and Health Advisor will further support the Group Safety and Operations teams in driving the initiative-taking implementation and continual improvement of safety and health culture, strategy, plan, and performance. The role is also responsible for providing practical safety and health advice and support to our people and assisting operational leads in delivering initiatives that continually improve our culture and performance in line with the Group Safety Strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a detailed and current understanding of existing and developing HSE regulatory and other requirements applicable to the operations supported and keep site leadership informed of these requirements supported by Group Safety. Work with site leadership to ensure any applicable changes to legislation are managed to maintain compliance.
  • Provide expert advice, interpretation and support to site leadership and operational staff in hazard identification, risk assessment and control of safety, occupational health and hygiene and environmental aspects and impacts of all the processes and activities associated with the portfolio of operations.
  • Provide advice to and support site leadership to develop and implement site-specific processes, systems, controls, work instructions, forms, and other supporting documentation to align with organization wide processes.
  • Partner with Group Safety and other operational HSE Business Partners to ensure companywide procedures and forms align to operational needs.
  • Coordinate, with direct input from line management on the specific operational controls and details, the implementation of the Group Safety System and compliance to ISO 45001 certifications.
  • With input and direction from site leadership, identify and develop the site-specific annual business plans, aligned to the compliance register and Group Safety Strategy, and other local level health and safety improvement requirements.
  • Work in consultation with site leadership and Group Safety to identify and implement programs that foster wider awareness and understanding of behavioral safety programs in the workplace.
  • Provide practical support to programs that improve the awareness and capability of the operations around the identification of critical risks and controls and implementation of companywide and local safe systems of work.
  • Provide coaching for site leadership in the work required to understand and implement the Group Safety System to the required standard including ongoing maintenance and improvement of the system.
  • Stimulate improvements in safety culture by facilitating and promoting visible safety leadership activities and engaging workers in the dialogue.
  • Work with site leadership to ensure required health and safety monitoring programs (health, medical and occupational exposure etc.) are completed on time and to the expected quality to meet regulatory and company requirements.
  • Maintain clear and constant communication with direct and matrix managers with respect to operations priorities, risks, issues, and opportunities.
  • Support the implementation of identified mandatory HSE training. Deliver training content as required.
  • Support and provide guidance on the closure of audit and incident/inspection corrective actions by Line Leaders.
  • Compile relevant internal and external data for stakeholder and Group Safety reporting and as requested.
  • Prepare relevant presentations, plans and management reports as required by Group Safety, local level permits and regulations.
  • Collect, monitor, and analyze relevant HSE data (including incident and near miss data, occupational health and hygiene monitoring results and trends) with the aim to set realistic objectives and targets (KPIs) and interventions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Cal/OSHA 30-hour training course for general industry
  • Bilingual (spoken and written) in English and Spanish
  • Degree or certification in occupational health and safety and/or risk management
  • Minimum 3 year s practical experience in a health and safety role, ideally with a focus on agricultural FMCG and / or manufacturing.
  • An understanding of business issues and restraints faced by operational managers in implementing health and safety processes and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability in time management and ability to effectively prioritize tasks.
  • Detailed knowledge of health and safety legislation, industry standards and management system standards (ISO 45001).
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement in the interpretation and analysis of health and safety legislation and audit criteria.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in investigation methodologies and change management.
  • Excellent written and communication skills, including the ability to consult effectively with employees, contractors, management, and stakeholders.
  • Contractor Management.
  • Lead auditing capability in safety and health or other disciplines.
  • Ability to interact with and influence a diverse team at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to learn and oversee management systems.
  • Ability to influence and achieve outcomes through others.

Paid Time Off Benefit-eligible employees will accrue paid time off at a rate which results in the number of days (and hours) of PTO per year for each continuous year of employment as indicated in the following chart:
