POSITION: School Crossing Guard
JOB GOAL: Enforcement of traffic regulations in controlling street traffic at crossings used by school children; all other related work as required. By law, School Crossing Guards are not allowed to direct traffic, but are intended to be a visible presence to remind drivers of pedestrians crossing.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma
- Knowledge of traffic controls and vehicular safety measures.
- Knowledge of crossing procedures required for varying types of road configurations.
CPR Certification.
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Safely crosses school children who walk to school across a street to and from school whenschool is in session. At school crosswalks stops vehicular traffic with the aid of a stop paddle to permit safe passage of children across roadways.May provide guidance to children on safety measures in crossing streets.Maintains an awareness of area activities near the assign post which may affect student safety, such as unsafe driver behaviors, constructions nearby crossing area, damaged/missing streetsignage, lack of bicycle helmet for bikers, and unsafe street conditions. Report these to thebuilding principal and Director of Transportation at the end of each shift.May handle emergencies such as accidents involving vehicles or children and control suchsituations until other emergency help arrives.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a 10 month, nonaffiliated position. $25/hr up to 15 hours per week.Barnstable Public Schools is an EOE and strongly encourages minority candidates to apply.
