Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Civil Engineer with related experience to add to the Environmental Services Engineering team in our Midwest Region. As a professional within our Environmental Services Practice, the candidate could support a wide variety of civil engineering projects which may include stormwater management, hydraulic analyses, solid waste, remediation, sustainable solutions, design of environmental systems such as containment liners and water quality/treatment systems, and site development for buildings/facilities. The position will have an emphasis on supporting coal combustion residuals (CCR) impoundment closure process and stormwater management evaluations, site cut/fill analysis, dewatering analysis, grading plan development, and cover system alternatives evaluations and design. The position also offers the opportunity to focus in certain technical areas or practice in a variety of technical areas, perform assistant project management duties, and interact with clients. This group manages long-term clients, pursues new environmental projects and clients, and supports other departments throughout the company with civil or environmental engineering services. Our team also works closely with in-house construction professionals on design-build and engineer-procure-and-construct (EPC) projects.
The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated, have strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, good time-management skills, and experience with the following:
+ Providing technical solutions for civil or environmental engineering projects.
+ Performing calculations using industry-standard tools and software.
+ Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
+ Preparing preliminary engineering reports, options evaluations, design drawings, calculations, specifications, work plans, construction reports, and cost estimates.
+ Design programs such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, MicroStation, and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, civil analysis programs.
Duties may include:
+ Design of environmental systems and facilities.
+ Support civil or environmental projects or tasks which may include earthwork/grading, stormwater, wastewater, remediation, waste management, and restoration.
+ Preparing reports, studies, and cost estimates to help clients evaluate options and provide solutions.
+ Assistant project management duties such as developing and executing project scope, budget, schedule, quality, safety, and client expectations.
+ Oversight of construction and preparation of construction quality assurance (CQA) reports.
+ Internal and External Oral Presentations.
+ Training / mentoring staff.
+ Construction cost estimating.
+ Developing new and maintaining existing client and regulatory relationships.
+ Other duties, as assigned.
**Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering program from an ABET accredited university.
+ Minimum 3 years of related civil or environmental engineering experience required. Consulting experience preferred.
+ Relevant engineering masters degree can be substituted for 1 year of experience.
+ Successful completion (i.e., passing) FE or EIT required. PE preferred.
+ Experience overseeing construction preferred.
+ Available for travel as necessary (approximately 15% travel)
+ Strong knowledge of standard civil engineering techniques and procedures.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
