Senior Landscape Technician - Golf Maintenance

JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision operates specialized equipment for the maintenance ofpark sites and golf course grounds, performs landscape management tasksand applies prescribed amounts of fertilizers and chemicals for pestcontrol and healthy plants/turf.
ESSENTIAL JOBFUNCTIONS:
1. Operate specialized equipment for the maintenance of park sites and golfcourse grounds including but not limited to specialized mowing equipment,chemical sprayers, backhoe, front and end loader and various implementsutilized in care of large turf areas as well as maintain and perform minoradjustments to the equipment.
2. Perform maintenance type duties to golf courses and park sites includingconstruction and repair of buildings, shelters, playgrounds,concrete/asphalt, retaining walls, landscape improvements, drainage systems,etc.
3. Perform landscape management tasks such as mowing and trimming of turf grassareas, installation and care of plant materials including flowers, trees andground cover.
4. Apply prescribed amounts of fertilizers and chemicals for pest control andhealthy plants/turf as well as maintain accurate application records.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
5. Coordinate activities of seasonal employees and other small groups in thecare and maintenance of facilities and during special projects.
6. Install irrigation systems and perform preventative maintenance toirrigation system and controllers.
7. Monitor daily progress of landscaped areas by inspecting plants and turf forinsects, diseases, weeds, desiccation, etc., and recognize any problemsthat may be detrimental to health of plant/turf, playing conditions andfacility safety.
8. Prepare and maintain records such as cost analysis for site improvementproject, project progress report, work performed, and equipment utilized, fuelusage, etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of principles, procedures, tools and equipment used in carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and electrical work.
- Skill in determining irrigation problems, maintaining irrigation systems, repairing and installing irrigation systems.
- Skill in the maintenance of flowering annuals, shrubs, trees, roses, etc.
- Ability to read chemical labels and mixing directions of insecticides, herbicides and other pesticides rates/types of and other pesticides rates/types of chemicals using an assortment of sprayers.
- Ability to assist in the implementation of complete maintenance programs for turf grasses used on athletic fields, golf courses and building landscapes.
- Ability to lead volunteers and seasonal employees in the completion of assigned projects.
- Ability to assist in the installation and maintenance of trees, shrubs, ground covers, and flowers.
- Ability to develop cost analysis for golf course improvement projects and oversee same.
- Ability to receive and communicate detailed information through oral and written instructions.
Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 80 pounds. - Ability to work outdoors and withstand extremes of weather and temperature.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule.
- Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to seeing, stooping, twisting body, carrying and lifting, cleaning, writing and pushing.
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment including, but not limited to lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, triplex mower, power rake, light weight fairway mower and motorized vehicle.
Qualifying Education and Experience:- A high school education one to twoyears experience in lawn care, maintenance, construction or horticulture.
- Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class C.
