**SUMMARY:**

The Blending Support Team Member is a key role within the R.C. Bigelow organization, responsible for facilitating and performing a number of analytical tests of teas, ingredients, blends, tea bags and co-packed products and reporting the results. The Blending Support Team Member works as a part of the Food Safety and Quality team to ensure the quality and integrity of the products meet our consumers expectations. The person in this position must be detail-oriented, precise, organized and agile to administer multiple projects and priorities that may arise.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:**

- Set up teas, ingredients, blended teas, finished product and co-packed items against respective controls.

- Run assigned tests on blended tea, raw ingredients, and specified herbal ingredients. In addition to conducting sensory evaluation, tests may include: Specific Weight Density, Free Flow and Tap Density, % moisture, and water activity.

- Convene daily sensory panel evaluations for ingredients, teas, blends, factory samples.

- Maintain test records including disposition, control dates, and sensory panels.

- Document and communicate disposition of tested items to key stakeholders.

- Maintain control samples.

- Collect and organize retention samples.

- Inform manager/supervisor of products not within established specification.

- Set up and test lot re-test blends submitted by the plants.

- Assist with storage studies, including set up and logging results.

- Function independently and prioritize workload to ensure that all duties are being completed in a timely manner.

- Keep a clean work environment.

- Other duties / tasks as assigned by Analytical Lab Supervisor.

**QUALIFICATIONS:**

* Highly organized, independent, and able to manage multiple tasks at once

* Competent with basic data entry skills using Microsoft Excel

* Interested to learn about sensory analysis, testing methods and their interpretation

* Clear oral/ written/ and interpersonal communication skills

* Creative and innovative thinker with analytical skills and keen attention to detail

* Enjoys collaborating with others with the team and across the organization

**EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:**

Associate Degree in a scientific field (AS in Biology or Chemistry) is preferred, but will also consider applicable work experience in a laboratory setting or related industry.

**LANGUAGE SKILLS:**

Ability to read, write and communicate in written or oral form within department and to other parties when required.

**COMPUTER SKILLS**:

Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint

**LABORATORY EQUIPMENT**:

Capable of conducting general lab practices, including scale use, kitchen stove, laboratory pipets.

Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure to solve practical problems with a variety of variables. Must be able to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
