EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Under the general supervision of the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for reporting and reconciliation. Back-up to the Payroll Manger to review and process payroll to faculty, staff, and student employees on a bi-weekly pay cycle university-wide. Processes/assists employees with direct deposit, general deduction requests, and payroll questions.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

* Reporting and reconciliation for audit requests, deductions/memos, and vendor billing

* Back-up for processing bi-weekly payroll for all faculty, staff, and student employees accurately and efficiently.

* Review and process general deduction forms completed and submitted by employees.

* Researches payroll overpayments or other discrepancies and communicates such items to the Payroll Manager.

* Provide assistance to faculty, staff, students, and external individuals/entities regarding payroll and related human resources policies, resolving any associated issues promptly and effectively.

* Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Preferred Associates Degree or one year of payroll experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position does not have any supervisory responsibility

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

* Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion

* Ability to meet deadlines, multi-task, and prioritize tasks accurately

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels.

* Strong attention to detail, problem solving and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

* Ability to Work independently

* Knowledge and proficiency in payroll software/systems (e.g., ADP/Banner/Kronos)

* Advanced knowledge of computer applications (Microsoft Office)

* Knowledge of public institution personnel/payroll practices and procedures

* Knowledge and understanding of payroll documentation procedures and requirements

* Knowledge of general mathematics

* Knowledge of general accounting principles

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment

* No or very limited physical effort required

* No or very limited exposure to physical risk
