**About the Indiana School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing:**

The Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD) is a fully accredited school for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in nursery school through high school. The Indiana School for the Deaf is accredited by AdvancED Indiana and the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD). It provides services to approximately 342 students enrolled on campus. About 60% of the students live on campus during the academic year. ISD offers a full range of social activities, including sports, clubs, and organizations.

**Salary Information:**

This position will normally start out at $25.766.00 annually, but could be commensurate with experience.

****About the Job:****

The Security Officer is responsible for ensuring security and safety of patients, clients, students staff, and/or visitors on the grounds of a state facility.

****A Day in the Life:****

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

* Patrols grounds to ensure security of buildings, grounds and residents against fire, disturbances and vandalism.

* Maintains ADT fire alarm system.

* Controls parking and traffic flow in state owned parking lots.

* Searches for missing students makes reports and contacts local police agencies.

* Conducts criminal investigations.

* Assists on ambulance runs as back-up driver transporting the sick or injured to medical clinics or hospitals.

* Detains and holds all persons who commit a crime or misdemeanor within their view.

* Removes persons from buildings or grounds when requested by authorized officials.

* Exercises power of arrest on streets passing through the grounds as established by agreement with the appropriate law enforcement agencies.

* Appears in court as the arresting officer in accordance with the Indiana law.

* Investigates vehicle traffic accidents occurring on grounds.

* Prepares and submits daily reports of activity to supervisor.

* Renders first aid to injured persons until arrival of professional medical personnel.

****What You'll Need for Success:****

* Graduation from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA)

* Must hold and maintain a valid Indiana Public Passenger Chauffeurs License.

* Specialized knowledge of law enforcement, security and fire inspection procedures.

* Extensive knowledge of institutional and/or departmental safety, security and fire rules and regulations.

* Ability to make critical decisions under adverse or emergency conditions.

* Ability to administer advanced level first aid.

* Ability to physically defend oneself.

* Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.

****Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:****

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
