Job Details

General Definition of Work

An individual in this class performs skilled repair and maintenance of all technology-related equipment as well as technical support for all technology-related systems. Employee provides technical support to users including, but not limited to, technical advice on equipment setup and operation, general troubleshooting, and software installation. Employee typically works in a centralized microcomputer environment; however, positions may be located in other environments. Employee reads and interprets schematics, wiring diagrams, and repair manuals to provide required technical support.

Essential Job Funcations

  • Repair, maintains, and upgrades technology-related equipment
  • Reads and interprets schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals
  • Operates standard and specialized electronics devices in testing and troubleshooting computer and other technology-related equipment.
  • Maintains an inventory of electronics components needed to make timely repairs.
  • Uses a work-order tracing system for routine repair and maintenance of equipment. Refer complex problems to higher level technical support.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Customer service skill sets, as well as ability to supervise vendors during all phases of installation and maintenance
  • Ability to be a team player and a leader responsible for assigned projects (phone systems, security camera systems and paging systems).
  • Ability to identify issues that impact end users and follow through on resolving problems.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and related technology devices.
  • General knowledge of electronic devices.
  • Familiarity with the operation and uses of standard test equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of mathematical principles as applied in electronic circuit analysis.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force.
  • Regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or fell, climbing or balancing and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Frequently requires pushing or pulling and lifting.
  • Occasionally requires sitting and stopping, kneeling, crouching or crawling.
  • Requires ability to adjust focus, depth perception and color perception.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by use of the spoken word.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
  • Requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts.
  • Require use of measuring devices.
  • May require assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length.
  • Must be able to operate machines, motor vehicles or equipment.
  • Frequently requires working in high, precarious places.
  • May be exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
  • Occasionally requires exposure to fumes, airborne particles and/or to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic, classroom).

Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from a two-year college or technical school with coursework on electronics and computers and one year experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience

Special Requirements

Valid North Carolina Driver's License
