About this Position

Under the supervision of the Recreation Program Coordinator, the Seasonal Recreational Support Staff is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising quality activities for camps, programs, and special events. Scheduled work hours vary, and regularly include evenings and weekends. The possibility exists for holiday hours.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and security of all program and event participants and be alert for potential problems or equipment hazards
  • Plan and lead activities, such as games, programs, and arts & crafts
  • Demonstrate the use of materials and tools to instruct participants in arts & crafts
  • Adapt activities, games, programs, etc. as needed due to change in weather, expected participants, or other variables
  • Assist the Parks & Recreation staff with programs and special events
  • Enforce rules and regulations to guide conduct, maintain discipline, and safeguard health of all participants
  • Fix or remove equipment and notify management, as needed
  • Handle minor disciplinary issues with participants and notify management of any issues (management will handle larger issues)
  • Attendance at work is an essential job function of the position


Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must hold or be able to obtain a certification in Adult CPR/AED and Standard First Aid
  • Experience exercising judgment, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with the public or other agencies
  • May be required to attend training workshops


Necessary Skills

  • Availability to work Friday evening and night for the season's movies in the park (dates will be provided upon interview)
  • Availability to work at an overnight Saturday through Sunday campout in Mitch Park in October (dates will be provided upon interview)
  • Ability and willingness to assume responsibility for work performed
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to undertake responsibilities with some initiative and judgment
  • Ability and willingness to set a positive example
  • Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
  • Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug test
