Overview and Responsibilities:

Saint Marys University of Minnesota is seeking a skilled carpenter with knowledge of various carpentry techniques. This position will perform general day to day repairs of campus buildings and grounds. Job responsibilities include:

  • Maintenance and care of the shop area and equipment, including power tools, hand tools, etc.
  • Supervisory skills
  • Flooring skills
  • General repair of windows, screens, drapes, blinds and doors
  • Lock and hardware installation and repair
  • Concrete and cement block repair
  • Cabinet work and finishing
  • Maintain a good working relationship with trades department personnel and all other departments
  • Maintain a close line of communication and daily report with the Building Maintenance Supervisor
  • Estimate project materials and costs as well as estimates on completion of projects when requested

Essential Skills and Functions:

  • Proficient with all power and hand tools
  • Ability to work with and supervise student workers
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds, and move heavy equipment
  • Be able to help with site preparation and tear down of special functions
  • Climb and work well at various heights
  • Have a wide range of carpentry skills
  • Ability and skills needed for repair of all university facilities, and teach these skills to coworkers
  • Willingness to attend classes and seminars as directed by supervisor
  • Ability to work with metal equipment-repair, welding, etc.



Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of four years experience with rough and finish carpentry
  • Thorough understanding of carpentry principles and methods
  • Valid driver license with a good driving record required
