Summary:
Must be able to explain and teach community college students from various backgrounds, cultures, ages and experience levels subjects centered on modern Fire Service concepts and applications. The position involves the teaching of the principles, theories and techniques used in the Fire Service. Must have a thorough understanding of the multiple functions of the Fire Service and the ever-changing needs of the Fire Service culture.
Knowledge & Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Teaches classes and instructs; conducts learning activities.
- Prepare lesson activities; prepares and oversees projects.
- Maintain student attendance records and other required records.
- Prepare course materials such as homework assignments and handouts.
- Administer examinations
- Maintain cleanliness of class/labs area.
- Maintain security of tools and equipment.
- Maintain direct supervision, direction, and control over the performance of all persons to whom any portion of the planning, development, presentation, or administration of a course has been delegated.

Education Minimum: High School education or GED and Related Instructor Certification. Ability to communicate with various levels of students through various mediums of instructional delivery; educational philosophy compatible with the role of the community college.
Experience Minimum: Two (2) years of experience related to area of teaching.
Additional InformationLanguage Skills: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of descriptive data and information, such as policy manuals, Employee Handbook, SACS Criteria Manual, program guidelines from DCC, course syllabi and course textbooks.
Mathematical Skills: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as ability to calculate decimals and percentages. This position must be able to provide accurate data for program costs projection analysis.
Reasoning Ability: Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, teaching andragogy, and leadership. Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required.
Computer Skills:A complete knowledge of Microsoft Products as used in overall management in an educational environment is required.
Physical Demands:This position is normally active with some physical demands of lifting up to 60 lbs .The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee must be able to communicate effectively. The employee must be able to meet mobility requirements and be able to occasionally move materials of up to 10 pounds. Must be able to access print material and utilize the information effectively.
Work Environment: The position has responsibilities in classroom and laboratory environments. The position may require work in a variety of environments including outdoors in extreme conditions on occasion.
