VACANCY

The City of Pomona Police Department is seeking motivated applicants who are interested in the maintenance, repair, alteration, and custodial care of police facility buildings. Under supervision, the Maintenance Worker I (PD Assignment) performs a variety of maintenance tasks for the Pomona Police Department such as the general upkeep of property and facility including carpentry, plumbing, roofing, painting, mechanical, heating, air conditioning, and electrical trade work. This position with the City of Pomona Police Department is a part-time, non-benefited opportunity, which is classified as at-will. Hourly/part-time positions are eligible for Worker's Compensation and sick leave only. Hourly/part-time positions are limited to an average of 20 hours per week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO APPLY

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would to perform the essential job duties is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess one (1) year of related experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Class "C" driver's license and have a good driving record.

In addition, the successful candidate will possess the following skills:
  • Familiarity with common tools and equipment used in construction and maintenance work.
  • Familiarity with materials, tools, and methods used in general building repair and maintenance.
  • Perform light carpentry, plumbing, and electrical.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and read and write basic English.
  • Lift objects up to 50 lbs., with frequent lifting, pushing, and/or carrying of objects.
  • Perform heavy manual labor and physically strenuous tasks on a regular basis.
  • Perform unskilled, semi-skilled, and/or skilled tasks in a variety of building maintenance activities.
  • Work safely, efficiently, and independently.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with co-workers.
  • Deal tactfully and courteously with internal and external customers/employees.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written directions.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Perform rough in, top out, and finish plumbing to replace broken pipes; clean plugged drains; perform routine maintenance on valves, fitting, and other fixtures; install new plumbing fixtures.

Build cabinets and shelves; construct or repair walls, platforms, and ramps; hang doors; finish wood and repair a variety of building objects.

Operate power tools or other machinery that are potentially hazardous.

Clean and/or power wash exterior surfaces of buildings or common area as needed.

Provide general custodial duties, to include washing windows as needed.

Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time.

Operate a motor vehicle safely.

Identify and report building maintenance needs in assigned buildings and facilities.

Prepare surfaces for painting; apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, or other protective finish to various surfaces.

Move furniture and office equipment; install and modify modular workstations.

Maintain inventories of supplies; deliver supplies, equipment, and furniture to all police facilities.

Perform general maintenance such as painting, replacing light bulbs, and ceiling tiles.

Secures areas with spills/debris until cleanup can be completed.

Must be reliable, responsible, and dependable to fulfill obligations.

Respond to emergency calls for building maintenance services.

Interact with co-workers at all levels in the organization in a collaborative and customer service-oriented manner.

Perform related duties as assigned, within scope of practice.

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; exposure to heat, noise, outdoors, confining work space, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations; must be available to work varied work hours, weekends and holidays.

Failure to receive a recommendation to hire at any phase will result in disqualification.
