Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - Critical Care

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) will assist in the care of critically ill patients in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) setting (i.e shock, respiratory failure, severe metabolic derangements, etc), in collaboration with an intensivist who is present 24 hours daily. NPs/PAs are also supported by a multidisciplinary team including clinical pharmacists, nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, and others. Coverage by the physician & NP/PA team is provided to ICU patients 24 hours daily, split into two shifts.

Responsibilities of the Acute Care NP or PA include but are not limited to:

* Evaluation of new patients and completion of History & Physical /Consultation notes

* Daily patient rounds and care planning and completion of Progress Notes.

* Facilitation of safe transfer and discharge of patients into and out of the ICU

* Interpretation of test results including but not limited to: labs, blood gases and chest x-rays

* Procedures icluding but not limited to : Central Venous line insertion, arterial line insertion, endotracheal intubation

* Coordination of care with nursing staff, consulting physicians, and other members of the care team

* Assistance in management of emergencies including but not limited to CODE BLUE

* Communication with patient families

* Multidisciplinary rounds on both day and night shifts

* Completion of physician-assigned plans within appropriate scope of practice

* Adhere to mutually agreed upon clinical practice guidlines/scope of practice

QUALIFICATIONS:

Nurse Practitioner:
1. Completion of Acute Care NP Program


2. Active Advanced Practice License

Physician Assistant:
1. Active PA licensure

2. Current ACLS/BLS certification

WORK SCHEDULE: 7 days on 7 days off, 7:00PM - 7:00AM
