At ReadMe, we re committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace. We welcome people of all backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives. We are an equal opportunity employer and a pleasant and supportive place to work. We'd love to have you come join us here! ReadMe is open to hiring folks fully remote in the US, hybrid, or in-person at our San Francisco HQ.

We re looking for a foundational Product Lead to direct cross-functional product execution, strategically define our product, and own important aspects of revenue growth. You'll be an individual contributor to start with and will be responsible for bringing on a small team of PMs to help you scale in the coming quarters and years.

As a leader of our product, you ll have a lasting impact on the way developers create, document, improve, and use APIs. There s huge potential here to make a strong impact on developer experience across the board. We re a Series A company coming off a year of record growth, and have more than 3,000 active, paid customers.

We re looking for someone who believes the best way to grow is to build a product users love, and who s excited about the prospect of supercharging the next phase of growth for ReadMe. If you were a developer in a past life, or love all things SaaS, we would be delighted to hear from you.

We're a small team of humans (and one owl ????) working together to shape the developer landscape through documentation and we re growing! That s where you come in.

???? What we do

ReadMe helps companies build beautiful, personalized, and interactive developer hubs. If you ve ever visited the developer docs for Intercom, Airbnb, or Notion, you ve used ReadMe! We love what we do because it s so much more than just API docs. We re helping teams deliver amazing developer experiences that make their APIs easy to use all while saving time and effort behind the scenes. You can read more about what it s like to work at ReadMe on our careers page , or our Key Values page .

We've written on our blog in the past about how we interview , and feel free to browse our other blog posts as well if it strikes your fancy!

What you ll do here

Cross-functional execution:

  • Work with Greg (our founder and CEO), Engineering, Sales, Marketing and other stakeholders to create and execute on a product roadmap our team and customers are excited about!

  • Organize and execute large-scale product projects, like a major redesign of ReadMe's editing and publishing workflow.

  • Manage product launches and drive adoption of new features with the help of our wonderful Marketing, Sales, and Success teams.

  • Improve core product quality and help us Make things just work!

Strategic product definition:

  • Bring your fresh perspective to streamline the nuts and bolts of admin workflows in ReadMe: billing, authentication, provisioning, and more.

  • Work closely with Enterprise customers to understand their needs, and define our Enterprise product. Our CSMs and AEs will connect you with helpful customers!

  • Be the change you seek and improve any product areas you re excited about.

Revenue ownership:

  • Champion the self-serve product experience to increase adoption and drive growth.

  • Iterate on our pricing and packaging strategies as the business and product evolve.

  • Identify key product usage and user success metrics and drive improvements in these metrics over time.

???? You ll love this job if you are

  • Excited about how companies big and small use ReadMe to collaborate across a diverse set of users. We re passionate about APIs and documentation, and we hope you are too!

  • Experienced with building B2B SaaS products especially for developers with broad product surface area and multiple use cases. You re also empathetic to customer needs and solve for the user in your decision-making.

  • Technical: Maybe you ve got some past experience as an engineer, or you re experienced enough with APIs that you d be able to contribute to discussions on creating amazing developer experiences.

  • Great at assessing tradeoffs between feature requests and resources and synthesizing feedback. You re able to think ahead, solve problems for the user yet-to-come, and be proactive with our roadmap.

  • An in-depth executor: This role will be very hands-on to start, with the opportunity to hire and build a small team over time.

???? How you ll grow in one month

  • Start to meet engineers, designers, and customer-facing folks at ReadMe to understand how the product could improve in their eyes.

  • Become familiar with our current product roadmap and development timelines.

  • Work with your peers to become an expert in the ReadMe product and the developer experience space.

  • Take the reins on our editing and publishing redesign project (internally called Workflow). Decide what to prioritize, come up with a plan, and figure out how we ll execute it.

???? Within a few months, you ll

  • Own product development timelines for all our planned releases.

  • Have a plan in place for increased product adoption (and how this will map to revenue growth).

  • Build close relationships with Enterprise customers and our Customer Experience team. You ll know the ins and outs of our Enterprise product, and how we can make it better.

???? Within your first year, you ll

  • Have completely changed the way we spec, develop, and launch products, for the better.

  • Continuously influence all our customers to be excited about ReadMe and everything it can do.

  • Be eager to continue your work improving developer experience for more people every day!

???? What s the hiring process like?

  • We can t wait to read your resume and (hopefully personality-filled) cover letter! Let us know what excites you about developer products, and help us get to know you better.

  • If we think we might be a good fit for you, we ll set up a 30 minute phone chat with Greg, our CEO/founder. He ll tell you more about the role, and get a chance to hear about your experiences.

  • Next will be a second 30 minute phone interview with someone else on the team, where we ll dive a bit more into your background.

  • Then we ll invite you to an "onsite" interview conducted over Zoom! These usually take 3.5 to 5 hours including an hour break in between. We are able to be flexible with the schedule and split it up over two days if that works best for you! We start with a 15-minute get-to-know-you with the team so you can meet the people you ll be working with, and then have you talk with people one-on-one later on.

  • We ll let you know how things went within a week! If it still seems like a good fit all around, we ll extend you an offer. If not, we will update you to let you know so you aren t left hanging.

  • Our benefits include

    • Unlimited PTO with a three-week minimum. ????

    • Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for you, and 50% for your dependents. ????

    • A One Medical membership. ????

    • A wellness stipend for therapy of up to $350 per month. ????

    • A gym or fitness stipend of up to $150 per month. ????

    • One-to-one donation matching of up to $1,000 per year. ????

    • Twelve weeks of paid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child. ????

    • Work from home office stipend of $500. ????

    • For fully remote employees, a stipend of $300 per month is available for a co-working space. ????????

    • Three offsite retreats per year to get together with coworkers and plan for the quarter ahead.

    • Take a look at our handbook for more information on our benefits! ????

Not sure if you d be the right fit? Apply anyway! We d love to see your application.
