Primary Function: Sets up and performs all types of machining on any type of rough or finished stocks or parts. Reads and interprets blueprints, charts, and sketches. Knows shop mathematics and plans own work. Sets up and operates machines to fabricate or repair parts within close tolerances. Fabricates and fits all types of journal bearings, couplings, etc. Does bench and floor work. Knows thoroughly the working properties of the materials handled. Operates and directs the operation of weight-lifting devices in moving heavy material or equipment to and from the work area. Dismantles inspects for sources of trouble, repairs, and reassembles all types of machinery and equipment in the plant as required. Grinds tools and bits and keeps them in good condition. Keeps working area, equipment, and tools in a clean and orderly condition. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent plus three years of craft experience in a relevant environment. Craft testing will be a required portion of the application process.As part of the employment process, all recruits are expected to successfully complete an entry-level examination.
