Peoria's Development and Engineering Department has an opportunity for a Temporary Building Inspector I (fixed term benefited) position that will work directly with the general public and contractors. This position will perform semi-skilled and skilled work in all phases of residential building construction to ensure compliance with the City's building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing codes, including other City ordinances and State and Federal laws. One or more certifications in Residential Inspections from the International Code Council is desired. Other duties may include completing related tasks as assigned.

The work schedule for this position is 5 days per week / 8 hours per day.

The ideal candidate for this position will:

  • Be a highly skilled, safety conscious, punctual team player with a strong work ethic.
  • Hold the Residential Combination Building Inspection Certification.
  • Have previous experience working in a government setting.

Other Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2-4 years of experience. Considerable previous experience required in the same or similar previous positions. Experience in residential construction may be considered for equivalency.
  • High School graduation or equivalency.
  • Heavy physical exertion, lifting between 25 and 50 pounds.
  • Valid Arizona Class "D" Driver's License upon hire.
