Part Time Cost Estimator, Railroad/Civil Construction, Boston MA


Job Details

Keville Enterprises, Inc., a Construction Management Consulting and Inspection firm, is seeking a part-time "on-call" Construction Cost Estimator. Assignments and tasks will be provided on an "as needed" basis. Hours worked shall not exceed 20 hours per week. This position does not guarantee a minimum number of hours worked per week.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Cost Estimator will be required to develop detailed cost estimates for a variety of public railroad projects, along with highway, bridge, tunnel, airport, port, water, wastewater, building construction, building renovation and other projects. Types of estimates will include preliminary conceptual estimates, estimates at various stages of design, change order estimates, claims estimates, and estimates to analyze "what if" scenarios. Estimator will also be required to review and comment on cost estimates developed by others, and write a variety of technical reports. Estimator will interface with construction schedulers to ensure that estimates and schedules are coordinated and integrated. Estimator will also be required to interface with project owners, designers, engineers, material and equipment suppliers, and construction contractors. Estimator will be required to participate in project meetings, negotiations, risk analysis studies, and value engineering studies.

Qualifications

  • Must have at least 5 years of railroad estimating experience including rail, signals, traction power, communications, bridges, and all associated civil work.
  • Must have at least 10 years of total construction cost estimating experience on the types of projects listed above
  • Must be highly proficient in the use of laptop and desktop computers
  • Must have demonstrated exceptional proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in HCSS Heavy Bid Software is strongly preferred
  • Experience with a digitizer or on-screen takeoff software is strongly preferred
  • CPM Scheduling experience is strongly preferred
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the construction process
  • Must have experience in reading construction plans and specifications and developing the crews, equipment, and production rates required to build a project
  • Must have a positive attitude, calm demeanor, friendly personality and work well with others
  • Must be fluent in the English language, have excellent writing skills, and have excellent oral communication skills
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related field
