Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is the steward of an integrated, multimodal transportation system that helps to ensure people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout the state. In addition to building, maintaining, and operating the state highway system, WSDOT operates the largest ferry system in the nation, manages the world's longest floating bridge, and recently completed the world's widest tunneling project.

**The Opportunity**

WSDOT is currently seeking experienced engineering professional to join our Toll Division in the Northwest Region. Under the direction of the Toll Systems and Operations Manager, this position is responsible for data analysis pertaining to the daily, weekly, monthly, and annual performance of the toll systems. This includes the roadside toll systems, transaction processing in the back office, and all the ancillary partners and processes. Depending on the time of day and availability of supervisors, this Transportation Engineer position will make decisions critical toll safety and revenue collection. Additionally, this position conducts quality assurance and control functions, and provides data, information, and analysis on traffic performance.

**What to Expect**

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, this Transportation Engineer will:

* Collect, analyze, and prepare data for required reporting, make policy recommendations, investigate potential problems, and monitor the effectiveness of system changes.

* Uncover trends in data and devise methods to translate data for diverse audiences.

* Support the oversight of all toll operations and maintenance activities on the active toll facilities and the back-office.

* Supervise, train, and mentor agency staff, interns, and consultants.

* Assist with coordinating and collecting data for performance monitoring effort and various reports such as, FHWA performance certification letters, the annual report, and monitoring Express Toll Lane speed and reliability metrics.

**Qualifications**

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

* Engineering degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience

* Valid WA State drivers license

* Knowledge of basic techniques for data handling and presentations

* Knowledge of basic computer systems and communications systems

* Knowledge of performance measures and experience monitoring system performance.

* Knowledge of statistical analysis methods

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Ability to analyze and interpret data

* Ability to improvise methods where there are few prescribed or established approaches

* Ability to train others with little or no knowledge of the subject matter.

* Ability to maintain a professional attitude towards vendors and contractors while dealing with difficult situations.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

* Advanced knowledge of roadside toll equipment, including: RFID readers, antennas, and transponders; image capture and processing equipment' fiber optic treadles and inductive loops; and other related tolling equipment.

* Knowledge of toll collection software and operating functions.

* Computer hardware and software use. Software to include Microsoft Office, Adobe, Chrome or similar system
