Job Summary

Interventional pain medicine nurses care for patients who are being treated for spine disorders and related complications. The interventional pain medicine registered nurse works closely with providers to develop a pain management treatment plan most conducive to the patient's needs. This RN promotes and establishes criteria for the delivery of quality nursing care. The interventional pain medicine RN educates patients on appropriate expectations prior to and following procedures and answers any questions they may have. This RN consistently provides effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team, collaborating with other healthcare team members in response to patient and family needs for a variety of complex patients. The interventional pain medicine RN seeks as well as provides feedback for improved clinical practice. As a registered nurse, this individual assumes a clinical leadership role, facilitating learning opportunities for staff, and seeks mentoring in this process.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: Currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Georgia. Current BLS and ACLS certification.

Essential Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Clinical Skills and Knowledge. Demonstrates basic assessment skills. Demonstrates the 5 rights of medication administration. Manages care for basic patient assignment and progresses to care for increasingly complex patients. Accurately documents all aspects of the nursing process using the electronic medical record as applicable. Accesses and follows policies. Participates in maintaining and monitoring the work environment to ensure compliance with regulations. Evaluates patient response to interventions and adjusts plan of care appropriately. Consistently coordinates interdisciplinary care. Uses resources effectively to reduce waste.
  • Position Responsibilities and Performance Expectations: Assess the patient's physical and emotional needs and provides appropriate care and interventions. Establishes immediate plans for patients following collaboration with physician. Performs ongoing assessment and communicates assessment and plan of care through written documentation and verbal reports. Documents nursing interventions and implements physician's orders in a timely manner. Correctly administers and documents medication regimen.
  • Coordinates with providers and staff regarding patient care and education.
  • Assesses patients and makes clinical decisions regarding their immediate care.
  • Performs minor procedures within the RN scope of practice including, but not limited to, IV initiation/fluid therapy and assists physician with spinal cord stimulator removal.
  • Educates employees about interventional pain medicine procedures and processes and the specific needs of interventional pain medicine patients in the outpatient practice setting.
  • Serves as initial point of contact for any patient problems, complaints or concerns related to their treatment plan.
  • Works closely with the practice administrator to identify and resolve operational issues.
  • Acts as a facilitator in the practice for the coordination of tasks required to process interventional pain medicine patients through NGPG.
  • Helps to build and maintain staff morale by presenting a positive attitude, professional communication and respect for the providers, staff and management.
  • Reviews and ensures timely and appropriate completion of tasks assigned to the interventional pain medicine team.
  • Acts rapidly and assumes leadership in acute or unusual situations according to NGPG departmental procedures.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate the patient.
  • Recognizes, reports, and documents significant changes in the patient's condition in a timely and accurate manner. Reports changes in the patient's condition and/or inappropriate patient response to the physician promptly.
  • Recognizes, reports, and documents conditions that affect or compromise technical aspects of the test/procedures.
  • Prioritizes patient problems appropriately as evidenced by immediate attention to those with actual or potential urgency.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of documentation requirements for all procedures, medications and interventions.
  • Ensures all consents and documentation is in place prior to patient's procedure.
  • Maintains current skills checklist and assists with performing skills checklist on other employees, providing feedback to the practice administrator.
  • Utilizes clinical expertise in assisting nursing staff, student and/or orientees with difficult or unusual patient situations.
  • Initiates active role in staff development during both one-on-one and group meetings.
  • Performs satisfactory in mock codes and other emergency preparedness drills or events.
  • Collaborates with Practice Administrator and physicians concerning patient care and/or unit needs.
  • Supervises and ensures completion of task assigned to ancillary/support staff.
  • Serves in a unit leadership role, appropriately delegating tasks to ensure the patients needs are met timely and accurately.
  • Maintain standardization in processes throughout all interventional pain medicine locations.
  • Clearly and compassionately communicates information to the patient and the patient's family as appropriate.
