Temporary Maintenance Worker


Job Details

The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine is currently looking for a temporary maintenance worker whom will assist in the repair, maintenance and construction of institutional facilities; assist in maintenance of grounds, set-ups for special events, painting, and other related duties. This basic schedule of this position is Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM up to 1,040 hours per fiscal year. Anticipated start date would be April, 2024.

This temporary position has a pay rate of $15.50 per hour, up to 37.5 hours a week; no benefits. Anticipated hiring for Spring, 2024.

Education/Knowledge

Minimum Education High School or GED Required Licenses/Certification

A valid driver's license is required for this position.

Skills Required

  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English as this position requires the incumbent to follow oral and written instruction;
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations;
  • Knowledge and ability to perform maintenance tasks;
  • Position requires excellent hand-eye coordination.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of complex grounds-keeping procedures, labor and custodial methods, procedures, and safety principles;
  • Familiar with landscape chemicals including pesticides, fertilizers, weed killer, mixing of chemicals required for landscape equipment;
  • Ability to effectively use appropriate hand and power tools;
  • Reliable and trustworthy;
  • Duties involve climbing ladders, long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting heavy items weighing approximately 50-75 pounds;
  • Requires frequent and prolonged exposure to extreme variations in temperatures including outdoor weather conditions and exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals.
