Utility Power Plant (UPP) Field Technician I

Job Summary:

The UPP Field Technician I, is responsible for assisting with the operation, inspection, and maintenance of site equipment and systems at utility scale PV power plants in a safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally correct manner while assigned on shift.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Understanding of electrical principles, safety, and arc-flash standards.
  • Ability to follow operating, switching, maintenance, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Must have a safety background with experience in Lock-out-Tag-Out and Job Hazard Analysis
  • Knowledge of industrial or power facility operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of local and national electrical codes.
  • Ability to read manufacturer technical manuals, basic electrical schematics, and one-lines.
  • Familiar with CMMS systems for maintenance tracking.
  • Ability to work safely and have a strong work ethic.
  • Self-directed and accountable, able to think critically about processes and issues.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
  • Must possess good English oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven computer skills in a Windows environment (Microsoft Office Products) are required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe work environment by strict adherence to company protocols.
  • Responsible for personal safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
  • Comply with Job Hazard Analysis, Pre-Job Brief and Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedures.
  • Stop unsafe work, report and correct unsafe conditions or hazards.
  • Complete site permitting processes, including participating in pre-job safety brief securing and isolating equipment under LOTO for maintenance purposes.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks and maintain high cleanliness standards.
  • With supervision be responsible for a variety of PM work including measuring, reading, testing, and performing maintenance procedures on all site components.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and assist in repair of DC, low voltage AC, data acquisition and meteorological station PV systems components.
  • Ensure CMMS work orders are complete in their entirety. Prepare documents necessary for procurement and utilization of materials and vendor services.
  • Attend, participate in and pass all assigned training in safety, environmental and other areas as assigned.
  • Maintain work area and site housecleaning to 5S standards.
  • Learn and qualify to perform switching operations on High Voltage (HV) and Medium Voltage (MV) systems and equipment, including substation equipment and overhead transmission systems, as applicable.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a related field.
  • College or technical degree preferred.
  • Electrical certifications, state, journeyman etc. a plus.
  • Equivalent electrical and practical training in military, utility, or power industry a plus.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Must be willing and able to sit, stand and walk for the duration of a shift.
  • Safely climb ladders, stairs, and work on rooftops.
  • Capable of safely lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 70 lbs.
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to, steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards).
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • Must be able to respond to site events in accordance with site contractual requirements.

Pay range: $22/hr
