Job Summary: Assistance in the nursery care of piglets.
Required Job Hours: Approximately 45 hours per week; 9 hours per day; 5 days per week plus rotating weekends.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Assessment of piglet condition;
- Active participation in gruel feeding, mat feeding, and hand feeding;
- Assessment of piglet health;
- Power washing and sanitizing barns, rooms, and hallways;
- Administration of treatment and vaccination to piglets;
- Moving piglets;
- Assessment and recording ventilation guidelines;
- Comply with all bio-security, safety, and animal welfare policies;
- Report to leadership of non-functioning ventilation equipment; and
- Report to leadership of ventilation readings out of ideal range.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to reach, bend, and stoop frequently;
- Continuous walking from pen to pen to check on piglets; a minimum of 8 hours per day;
- Quick reaction time and the ability to quickly reach a piglet to assist with any piglets that are being compromised;
- Continuous bending over pens to reach piglets (approximately 300 times per day) for marking, weighing, and treatment;
- Continuous bending, reaching, and crouching for powerwashing and sanitizing;
- Frequent kneeling, reaching, and steady balance required for treating piglets;
- Must be able to lift up to a maximum of 60 pounds consistently, with frequent lifting or carrying of object weighing up to 50 pounds;
- Must be able to push and pull up to 60 pounds;
- Must be able to stand and walk 8 hours every day, with a 45-minute break; and
- Must have fine motor skills for writing data, administering treatment shots, and weighing individual piglets.
