CAD Drafter


Job Details

Stable Columbia-based MEP engineering firm is seeking a CAD Drafter to work closely with engineering personnel to prepare clear, complete and accurate HVAC, electrical and plumbing work plans and detail drawings from rough or detail sketches or notes. Work assignments may include all areas of mechanical and/or electrical design such as HVAC, plumbing, communications, lighting, power, and construction coordination. Candidate must understand and be able to solve a broad band of engineering problems and have exceptional CAD skills. Ability to self manage and to function as a team member with other professionals is absolutely necessary. Open to Engineer in Training (track to PE).


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following as well as other duties may be assigned. Makes final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of HVAC, electrical and plumbing parts to the whole project.


Utilizes knowledge of various engineering design practices, mathematics, and building materials to prepare and complete drawings.


Makes any adjustments or changes required by the engineers, designers and/or clients.

Draws finished designs from sketches.


Uses computer assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software.


Performs field verification measurements of project sites along with other Malicoat-Winslow Engineers personnel and/or clients.

Education and/or Experience:

Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related CAD experience preferred and/or

Training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Required at least a high school education or equivalent. May train for the right person with attention to detail. Part-time positions also available.


Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.

Ability to communicate complex issues to customers in a professional, positive, friendly manner.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedural manuals, and bid proposals.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the Principals, engineers, drafters, and clients.

Mathematical Skills:

Apply mathematical concepts such as basic algebra and fundamentals of geometry.

Reasoning Abilities:

Ability to solve engineering design problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or drawn form.

Ability to use diplomacy and tact when dealing with problems.
