**Job Description:**
Physical Plant is responsible for maintaining College owned buildings and spaces. The Painter maintains and performs preventive maintenance painting on the interior and exterior of building throughout campus and college-owned property. Salary for this 15 hour/week position is $18.75/hr.
**Basic Responsibilities:**
* Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, caulking, spackle, or other fillers.
* Smooth surfaces using sandpaper or steel wool. Remove old paint from surfaces using paint remover, scraper, wire brush, or heat gun to prepare surfaces for painting.
* Apply paint, varnish, stains, or sealers using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.
* Use protective coverings (drop cloth/plastic) to protect college furnishings, equipment, and personnel.
* Erect scaffolding or ladders to perform tasks above ground level.
* Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times.
* Report unsafe conditions of buildings or equipment to supervisors.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
**Specific Responsibilities:**
The following are typical examples of the type of work performed under this job description. This list does not include all work to be performed and duties are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Director of Building Operations and Maintenance.
* Complete work tickets in a timely manner and update work status daily.
* Clean equipment in related areas. Keep mechanical rooms and work areas clean.
* Operate, maintain, and use in a safe manner College equipment, tools, and vehicles.
**Requirements:**
**Qualifications**
* Must have high school diploma or GED equivalency.
* 1-3 years' painting experience.
* Be able to prioritize, multi-task, and work under deadlines.
* Must have valid driver's license with two or less points.
* Be able to read and comprehend written instructions, procedures, service manuals, and safety information.
* Be able to express oneself orally as well as in writing.
* Be able to learn departmental policies, procedures, and mechanical systems, proper use of tools and materials used to perform duties within a ninety-day probationary period.

* Must attend in-service/departmental meetings.
* Must be familiar with employee handbook.
* Must be familiar with departmental policies.
* Must attend in-service education as directed.
**Physical Characteristics:**
This job requires the incumbent to be able to:
* Stand, stoop, lift up to 75lbs., pull, climb, work overhead, stand on ladders, and walk throughout college-owned property.
* Work in conditions subject to noise, heat, cold, odors, dirt, outdoor temperatures, snow, steam, and emergency situations.
* Work in confined areas which may involve stooping, standing, bending, or kneeling.
* Work from ladders, scaffolds, roofs, and multi-structured buildings.
* Perform duties in all areas of college properties including areas that are non-handicap accessible.
